Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Have you shopped for mom yet? If you’re like me and the thought of another scented candle or flowers just doesn’t show enough appreciation, then this little list is for you. The older I’ve become the more I just want to spend time with my mom. Creating a shared experience with those we love most is the ultimate gift. My mom is probably not going to remember getting a candle as much as she will the memories we made doing something fun together.
This list of 5 unique and creative Mother’s Day gift ideas is perfect for those of us who want to celebrate mom all year long. I still enjoy wrapping something in pretty paper and watching her open it, so I’ve included some gifts to add to the experience. Oh, and don’t forget dog moms! 😉

Find a beautiful hardcover journal with plenty of pages to write in. Start the journal by recording your favorite memories of times you’ve spent together. You can go all the way back to childhood or start at a specific date. Share your memories chronologically or randomly and feel free to attach photos, ticket stubs, or other memorabilia you may have saved. Leave room for your mom to add her memories and to comment on your entries. You can share this journal over the years, passing it back and forth. It’s always interesting to see what the other person remembers most about something. You can learn a lot from each other, too.

Grow Something Fun
There are some really fun grow kits out there, from growing cocktails and herbs to growing pizza ingredients. Plant your little garden and then when it’s time, reap the rewards into a fun evening of pizza and a movie, cooking a dinner together (have mom show you how to make one of her specialties), and playing mixologist. I’d recommend getting a kit for yourself and share how each of your gardens are doing.

Plan a Picnic
Picnic baskets make great gifts because they act as both gift and wrapping. Find a fun basket and fill it with everything for an easy picnic. Some simple crackers and cheese or a charcuterie board will do. Don’t forget the wine! Make the basket a theme with French or Italian ingredients so you can whisk mom away for a European afternoon. My mom loves being outdoors as much as I do, so I know this would be a big hit.

Get Fit Together
Yoga is a fun and easy way to get started or continue a healthy lifestyle. It can be done almost anywhere, too. I’d recommend wrapping up her own “yogi kit.” Start with a mat, water bottle, and a fun tank top and sign up for a few classes together. If you want to add more to her gift, get her a Fitbit and become friends. It’s another great way to stay connected.
A custom handwriting necklace or bracelet is a great idea. Preserve the handwriting of her mother found in old letters. Or save your own sentiments by starting with a heartfelt and handwritten note to mom. Convert your handwriting into a beautiful piece of jewelry that she will love to wear every day.
How are you celebrating mom this year? Do you have any favorite ideas for a unique and creative Mother’s Day gift?
