Living in a warm climate, I’m pretty picky with my outerwear. I usually only go for staple or classic pieces like camel coats, a sturdy rain jacket, or a trench. But this year I’ve been wanting to add a shacket to my wardrobe and I got the opportunity to do so by working with my friends at Ms. Fabulous (check out my recent Fall favorites post with them here). For me, a shacket is the perfect add-on piece on cooler days that completes the outfit. I love that it’s not heavy but still gives you some cozy warmth. Today’s post features 3 ways to wear a shacket and it was inspired by a recent conversation I had with a friend about how we determine whether an item is worth purchasing.
Last week I had lunch with my photographer friend (and super stylish thrifter) DiAnne about shopping for clothes and how we determine whether that item is “add to cart” worthy. Btw, DiAnne shot all these AMAZING photos of me…more on that below!
DiAnne was telling me that she focuses on only buying something if she can plan multiple outfits with it. If she can see herself wearing it in a variety of ways (not just with jeans, for example) then she feels like it’s a worthy addition to her closet. Not that those extremely special heels with the little bows and rhinestones aren’t worth getting – there are times and places for things like that – but when you’re doing some everyday shopping and adding a few new things for the season, think about different ways to mix that piece in with what you already own. This philosophy is something I’ve tried really hard to embrace over the last few years and it’s made my closet feel like a much more creative space than it used to. It certainly helps when it comes to travel, making it easier to create a capsule wardrobe for trips.
After our lunch we snapped some photos of this gorgeous shacket. I can’t get over how beautiful these photos came out! In addition to being so much fun to hang out with, DiAnne makes taking photos quick and easy. She gives great direction and makes you feel completely at ease. 3 Ways to Wear a Shacket
Wear a shacket with jeans and a basic tee. This is going to be the most common way I’ll wear this shacket. It’s easy to wear everyday and this is how I see myself wearing it while traveling. Maybe not always with the hat, but I’ve been loving this hat so much lately.

Wear a shacket over a sweater dress. I feel ready for a fall winery tour in this outfit (when am I ever not ready for that, though ;-)). This look would also work with a longer shacket or different boots (lug soles, I see you!).

Wear a shacket with riding boots and grab a statement accessory or two. Again I went with the hat and also grabbed a larger satchel for a look that says I just stepped out of a Ralph Lauren ad. At least, that’s how fabulous I feel. 😉
