I’m thinking about my summer staples in a much different light this year, knowing that I’ll be living in Amsterdam and not central Texas. I won’t have to worry about triple digit heat waves, that’s for sure. I’m looking forward to more mild temperatures and being able to sit on a patio without breaking a sweat. I came up with what I think (emphasis on think) are going to be some of my most worn summer wardrobe staples. I’ve only visited Amsterdam once in the summertime and it was several years ago, so I’m going into this a bit blindly but I can always layer up with a cardigan or light jacket. Much easier to add than take away. I’m leaving room for a truly hot day or two, or maybe even a road trip to a warmer climate, but basically these are my 9 summer staples for a European summer. Maybe there is some inspiration you can glean for your own summer wardrobe here, too.
– Summer dresses (shirtdress, t-shirt dress, shift dress – love this one and this one)
– Comfy sneakers (to pair with dresses, jeans, trousers – love this pair and this pair)
– Flat sandals (to go with everything – love the color and style of this pair)
– Basket bags (for all those trips to the park with my girls – LOVE this classic bag)
– Crossbody bags (for everyday errands – love the shape of this one)
– Crochet tank tops (worn alone or paired under a cardigan – love this one, but check out one I made below)
– White button down shirts (effortless with jeans and sandals – love this oversized one)
– Straight leg denim (my new favorite denim – love this slightly distressed pair)
– Sunglasses (the bigger the better – love this bargain style)
The above crochet tank top is one I found online and love, but I also wanted to share one that I made recently. I’m still really loving the crochet trend and being able to wear knits in the summer is going to be amazing! This is the “Twist of Summer” tank top designed by Rachel of Evelyn and Peter. I purchased the kit from Lion Brand (of course) and made this tank top in just 2 days. I love the texture that the lemon peel stitch gives it. It’s so soft and light yet could be layered under a cardigan too.
