Happy Wine Wednesday!

I’ve done a lot of Food+Wine related posts, and now that I’m sitting here writing a post highlighting a new-to-me winery, I’m starting to think that maybe “Wine Wednesday” should be a recurring series. What do you think? I have loved creating wine focused content on Instagram (check out my Reels for those), but in order to really explore these wines as they deserve to be, the blog is where it’s at. So, let’s talk about Lost Hog Winery! I know you’re going to love them as much as I do!

I saw my first bottle of Lost Hog wine on a random Saturday trip to Costco. I was looking for interesting wines that I haven’t had before and other than that, I didn’t really have a particular agenda. Red, white, rosé…it didn’t matter. I just wanted to stock up on some wines to enjoy on the patio as the weather begins to get warmer. That’s when I spotted a bottle of Lost Hog Sauvignon Blanc. I’ll admit, it was the incredibly cute little pig on the label that drew me in.

Nothing says summer is coming more to me than a crisp white wine. I just want to have seafood on the water or a cold pasta salad and sip a delicate, lightly fruity, and dry white wine. Ok, you know I’m most passionate about rosé this time of year. If Lost Hog Rosé was available at Costco that day then we’d be having a different discussion entirely. In fact, Lost Hog’s 2020 Rosé just won the Best In Class award at the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition! Now I’m dying to try it! But I digress…let’s get back to the Lost Hog wines I have tried (and love).

Lost Hog Sauvignon Blanc is so smooth and frankly pairs well with just about anything or can be enjoyed alone. It’s not tart but still has hints of citrus fruit that I enjoy. I love this wine so much that I keep going back to Costco and buying more. At one point I thought I didn’t have any more bottles and at the last minute found one hiding in the back of the wine fridge. Day made!

Recently, the kind people of Lost Hog sent me a couple of their red wines to try – Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Instant fan here, guys. Really, really delightful red wines. These babies are going to be perfect for all those spring and summer BBQs. We are always on the patio grilling up something this time of year.

For the Zinfandel, Paul made Arugula and Basil Pesto Linguine with Grilled Chicken and it was just the perfect pairing. For the Cabernet Sauvignon, he made Rosemary Rack of Lamb with Greek Tomato Salad. You could interchange these wines, too, as both have notes of blackberry and cherry. But that Cab Sav also has a chocolatey finish that works so well with grilled meat. Am I making you want to try these wines yet? Try not to get too much drool on your screen. 😉

You can now purchase Lost Hog wines directly from their website! Check out their wine shop here!
