I have had this post in the back of my mind for a few weeks now, but I just couldn’t get the words together. I wasn’t even sure what to call it other than “Lately…” because that’s essentially what it is – everything that’s been going on lately. It feels like it’s been forever since I announced our move to Amsterdam. If you’ve ever been through an international move then you know how quickly things can change or how they can grind to a halt, only to pick back up at a feverish pace. I’ve received so many DMs on Instagram about how excited many of you are to follow along on our expat adventure. And I’ve received about as many questions wondering if I’m in Amsterdam or in the U.S. Lately I feel a bit like Carmen Sandiego. Where on Earth am I? So, here’s a little update on what’s been going on lately and when you can expect to see some more expat content (thanks for hanging in there with me, by the way).
We sold our house! It was a smooth process and an easy closing. But, I definitely had a few moments of sadness watching the movers empty the house room by room. We designed and built our home seven years ago and it was a little tough to let it go to new owners. Even though I am so excited for our life in Amsterdam, I get attached to things and it’s hard for me to say goodbye. At the end of the day, a home is where we are all together, no matter where it is. Onward and upward!
That being said, we have a few more weeks to go before we are all together. Paul is already in Amsterdam working and I am still in the U.S. with our girls. We had a slight hiccup in our plans to transport them over this month, so we ended up pushing it back to July. Plans are in place now, but for a few days it was a little uncertain. I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced this kind of stress before, but thankfully we have a new plan and are set to leave next month. We are extremely blessed with our travel arrangement and I cannot wait to be on that plane! For now, the girls and I are comfortable with family and friends. I am so grateful to them for all their help and cannot thank them enough.
Our belongings are currently on a container ship headed for Amsterdam and set to arrive later this month. The logistics of all that still amazes me. Did you know they drill holes into the container so that it will sink in case something happens? Fingers crossed those holes are unnecessary in our case. LOL I’m so ready to get settled and unpacked in our new place. There’s a terrace and an Aperol Spritz waiting for me!
I sold my car a couple weeks ago and it feels so weird not to have a vehicle. Paul purchased a bicycle that he’s been enjoying riding to work, and I’m looking forward to the bike life too!
As usual, to keep busy and relaxed during all this I’ve been crocheting like mad. I have three new projects that I just photographed and will have on the blog soon.
Thank you for keeping up with me especially during this time of limbo. As always, if you want more “in-the-moment” updates, be sure to follow me on Instagram!
Have a good one! And as always, thank you for reading!
