They say the days are long but the years are short, and nothing could be further from the truth this time of year. How is it possible that Christmas is less than 12 days away? I have really enjoyed this holiday season. I feel like I’ve done the most to embrace every minute and really appreciate the tiniest joys. I hope that you have as well. It’s been mighty cold in Amsterdam this winter so far, and I’ve spent just about every evening cuddled on the couch with my sweet little Lola and a crochet project of some kind. In today’s post, I’m sharing my last crochet project of the year and it’s the perfect easy project to make for yourself or as a gift. While you’re waiting for Santa to slide down the chimney, try making this holiday headband!
I am a big fan of cute winter accessories, but having lived in Texas most of my life the opportunities to don a scarf are few and far between. It’s mostly just summer all the time with a couple weeks of freezing weather, followed by more summer. I love living in Amsterdam where we actually see a change in the seasons (however, all summer we heard, Winter is coming, winter is coming!…). Even though it’s been a bit frigid, I am really enjoying mixing up my winter wear for once! As long as you’re dressed for it, the weather isn’t so bad. I’m making some different styles of crochet headband ear warmers in a beautiful winter color palette. They’re perfect to wear with your hair down or up and still keep your ears warm. And did I mention they’re super easy to make? I mean, Lola could probably do it if she didn’t think the yarn is also a toy. Watch her steal my latest skeins in this video!
The first crochet headband I made is the Cloud 9 Headband designed by Ali from The Turtle Trunk. She offers the FREE PATTERN on her blog, which includes 8 sizes from baby to adult. I made mine in the Teen/Adult Small size and it fit perfectly! Her instructions are clear and the berry stitch is really easy – don’t be intimidated!
The yarn I used is Umami Super Bulky from Hobbii. This was my first order with them and I am very pleased with the quality. Being a Danish company, I was able to get my yarn delivered to The Netherlands for a small delivery fee within just a couple of days. I love this Umami yarn so much! It’s soft, easy to work with, and comes in over 20 colors. The color I used is Bordeaux. I think it’s the perfect shade – like my favorite glass of red wine!
This is my last crochet project of the year, but I already have a handful of wearable projects lined up for 2023 that I can’t wait to get started on and share with you. There’s also more travel content coming your way, so stay tuned!
I hope this has been a great year for you, and wherever you are you are safe and loved. Merry Christmas!

This headband is incredibly beautiful and the vibrant color makes it look even more beautiful. The yarn you used looks really thick and comfortable to wear in heavy winters. Looking forward to knitting the same headband hopefully in a similar color for the coming winters. Thanks for sharing all the details.
