Every time I’m in the airport I find myself longing for those days when air travel was a bit more glamorous. Every time I see people sprawled on the floor in their pajamas, drinking a margarita by the yard at 6:45 in the morning, I cringe. Don’t get me started on bare feet on planes. When did air travel become so gross? But, I digress… Or, perhaps this is part of my point. I’m just not one of those people who wants to look like I just rolled out of bed, especially when I travel. I want a travel outfit that doesn’t say, “I woke up like this.”
I get it, though. Long flights are anything but comfortable. Carriers are increasingly reducing the size of your seat, cramming as many people into the aircraft as they can. Who wants to sit for 8-10 hours in a full suit? Not me.
But there are ways to accomplish looking put together without looking like a slob. And winter is my favorite season to dress for travel. My go to option is always a pair of thick leggings, a soft tunic, and shoes that have the comfort of a sneaker but don’t necessarily look like athletic wear.
That’s why I love the Maureen slip-on sneakers from Yellow Box. They are seriously so comfortable and slip on and off easily (perfect if you don’t have TSA pre-check). What you can’t see is a hidden comfort memory foam wedge that gives you a little bounce. If you’ve worn Yellow Box shoes before, then you’re familiar with this kind of feature but it was new to me. I can speed through the airport in these no problem. The lacing detail is decorative but subtle and gives it a little more interest than a plain slip-on sneaker.
I loved the look of these when I first saw them and then was blown away by the comfort. I’m wearing the taupe color which I think goes with literally everything. But the Maureen slip-on sneaker also comes in black, cranberry, and pewter. The price is also much more friendly than similar slip-on sneakers and they fit true-to-size.

I’m wearing mine with a high-waisted ponte-knit pant and jersey tunic with gold button detailing (similar here and here). I could sleep in this outfit but it doesn’t say, “I woke up like this.”
