With all this extra time at home, I’ve been doing some home organization. You can check out my latest pantry project here. This week I tackled my bathroom and let’s just say it was long overdue. Ordinarily I’m pretty organized but over the course of many days of hastily getting dressed or packing quickly, I’ve let my bathroom drawers go. It was a jungle in there! After an afternoon spent hacking my way through dry shampoos and face masks, I put together this post of bathroom organization tips to share the results and hopefully inspire you to get a fresh start when it comes to getting ready every day.

Bathroom Organization Tip No. 1: Take it all out – empty every drawer/cabinet
I don’t think you can truly see what you’re working with unless you start with a clean slate. I took everything out of every drawer and cabinet to not only see how much junk I need to sort through, but also to see my now empty drawers without thinking of them as having any designation whatsoever. The “hair care” drawer was just a drawer now, and it could be used for something else entirely.
Bathroom Organization Tip No. 2: Clean
Before organizing anything I went to work on cleaning each drawer. It’s amazing how dingy a drawer can get, and I wanted my shiny new organization bins to look clean and fresh.
Bathroom Organization Tip No. 3: Sort & toss
The next step in bathroom organization involves sorting through all your products and tools. I grouped everything by type (hair products, styling tools, lipsticks, lip glosses, skincare masks, etc…). As I organized by type I threw out anything that was old, expired, or even empty. Why am I keeping an empty jar of eye cream? Some packaging can be recycled so pay attention to labels.
Bathroom Organization Tip No. 4: Prioritize your essentials
I have products that I use every day and some that I don’t. I wanted to be sure that the things I use regularly are within easy reach, so that determined which drawer they went into. I also kept all hair related items to one section of drawers while cosmetics and skincare went into another section. Think about how you prefer to get ready every day and organize accordingly.
Bathroom Organization Tip No. 5: Travel sized items get their own special place
As a frequent traveler, I have amassed quite the travel-sized collection of products. In the past I had everything just dumped into a drawer, but now that drawer is organized and easy to select from. I hate packing, so keeping these items grouped together and organized is going to alleviate some of that dread. I won’t worry that I’m forgetting something if I can clearly see everything that I have.
Bathroom Organization Tip No. 6: Use organizational bins to keep things tidy
This tip should probably have a higher priority, but I think it’s helpful to do all of the above before ordering any kind of organizational product. Based on what I had I estimated how many bins and the size of the bins I would need. This lipstick organizer was perfect and allowed me a few extra spaces to grow my collection. I ordered this set of drawer bins and love the ridged bottoms so that things don’t roll around too much. They’re the perfect size for eye shadow palettes and eye/lip liners. This set of drawer organizers was great because of all the smaller square bins it included. It was perfect for storing hair bands and bobby pins. Skincare items went into these acrylic bins, which are stackable – a great option if you have deeper bathroom drawers. I had two acrylic makeup organizers that used to sit on top of the counter that I moved into a drawer.

Bathroom Organization Tip No. 7: Keep counters clear
I think I had way too many things on my bathroom counter. It was starting to feel cluttered and when things feel cluttered I feel disorganized and even a little anxious. Plus I had products just sitting there that rarely get used, so it didn’t make sense for them to be collecting dust. I kept my magnifying makeup mirror, cotton ball canisters, and nightly skincare regimen out, but the rest of my things went into drawers.
Just for fun, here are the before photos I shot prior to getting down to business. As you can see, it’s a bit of a nightmare…
My Bathroom Details:
I’ve had this vanity stool for years and it’s still in stock!
My storage canisters are really old, and I’ve tried like crazy to find similar ones that are in stock without any luck. I still like my canisters but I’m loving the simple clean look of these glass apothecary jars.
My makeup mirror is double sided with magnification and lights.
The mirrored tray was a random find and this one is quite similar.
This little desk organizer is perfect for storing rings and earrings at the end of the day.
Which room should I tackle next? Are you organizing more these days too?
