Mentally I am on a beach in Mykonos, sipping something cold, and watching the boats go by. Or perhaps it’s Hvar, Croatia. Either way, I’m in a summer frame of mind. Physically I’m organizing the last few drawers and shelves in the house and getting ready to be moved out in less than a month. But you know what they say, dress for the life you want, not the life you have right now. I’m kidding. I’m really excited about the upcoming move and even though there remain some slightly stressful hoops to jump through, it’s all good. I think with summer around the corner I’m just having all those usual vacation thoughts. I also think that’s why my latest project is so summer focused. It doesn’t get more summery than a beach or pool cover-up. My beachy keen swimsuit cover-up was maybe the fastest project I’ve completed yet. It was SO easy, although it did present some hiccups. Let’s break it down…
Watch my video to see how this cover-up really moves!
First, here are all the pattern details for my crafty readers. My beachy keen cover-up is actually called The Porto Tunic and you can purchase the entire kit from Lion Brand like I did here. If you just want the pattern, you can get it for FREE from Stitch and Hustle. As usual, I like the kit because it comes with all the yarn you need and it’s easy to swap out the colors suggested if you want. I went ahead and kept the original colors of 24/7 Cotton® Yarn in Camel and Ecru.
Now, what I liked about this pattern is that it was easy and gives you the flexibility to make it as long or as short as you’d like. It’s a tunic afterall so length is a personal choice. What I did NOT like was crocheting the shoulder and neck area. I went back multiple times to make sure I wasn’t doing anything wrong but I could never make the written instructions jibe with the pattern diagram. I ended up just following the pattern diagram and it worked out. But I believe there’s something missing from the directions. Anywho, I think it turned out great regardless!
I’m wearing a white one piece swimsuit underneath (love this brand) and paired it with cat-eye sunglasses and a rattan circle bag I bought on a trip to Split, Croatia a couple summers ago (similar style here). Ah, those seaside vibes are coming back to me…
And if you’re not as crochet crazed as I am, there are lots of crochet swimsuit cover-ups out there to love! Here’s a selection I think are pretty cute.
Have a good one! And as always, thank you for reading!
