Beautycounter Review: 3 Products I’m Loving

Beauty / Thursday, March 5th, 2020

So a few months back I was introduced to Beautycounter by another blogger. Before meeting Jess Gaertner of @Jess.HoldTheSpace (check out her blog, too), I was familiar with Beautycounter as a clean beauty brand, but that was the extent of my knowledge. I was always a bit curious about it, but hadn’t taken the leap to try anything yet. It’s hard to choose the right product to start with, you know?

Jess reached out with a selection of products to dip my toes into. She’s actually a Managing Director with Beautycounter, but there was never any pressure. In fact, what I love about Beautycounter is that you can shop online just like you do with Sephora or any other beauty brand. Since working with Jess, I’ve since gone back to the website and placed my own order, because I was really blown away by the quality, durability, and effectiveness of the products. Coincidentally, I was chatting with a girlfriend over the weekend and she hadn’t even heard of Beautycounter, so it seems there are others who have about as much knowledge of the brand as I did (or even less).

Why Beautycounter?

While I haven’t gone completely “clean” with my beauty products, I do enjoy testing out new brands that claim to be clean, cruelty free, paraben free, etc, etc. Reducing my exposure to harmful ingredients just seems like a no brainer, and someday I might get 100% there.

Beautycounter’s mission is to get safer beauty products into the hands of everyone. It is a female founded company that not only provides safer products to their own customers, but actively advocates for change in the beauty industry. Tens of thousands of toxic chemicals and chemicals with no safety data are on the market and in the products we use everyday. When was the last time you read the ingredients on your beauty products? Ever come across an ingredient called “fragrance.” What does that even mean? What is in that fragrance? I think you probably get my point.

I just really appreciate and support this ideology and commitment to product safety. As Beautycounter says, “beauty should be good for you.”

Aside from the clean beauty mission, I am continually impressed with the quality of these products. The Beautycounter products I’ve used to date have at least met or exceeded the performance of comparable beauty brands, without harmful chemicals.

Beautycounter Products I’m Loving

Since I’m always sharing things I love on here, I wanted to put the products to the test for a bit and then write a Beautycounter review. Have I tried everything at Beautycounter? No. Am I experimenting with one product at a time? Yes. These are the Beautycounter products I’m loving so far.

Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel

This stuff is awesome. I only use it 1-2 times per week, and I love the way my skin feels the next day. It’s not irritating at all. It just feels like a warmness all over my face. It is definitely not uncomfortable in any way. I generally feel like my skin is more “awake” and fresh when I wake up. It’s an AHA/BHA peel (alpha-hydroxy acid/beta-hydroxy acid) that due to those acids, combats a couple of issues: dead skin and bacteria. AHAs help stimulate collagen production and act as an exfoliant to remove dead surface skin cells. BHAs fight bacteria (think blemishes here). I love a product that accomplishes more than one task in one step!

This peel from Beautycounter also smells really good and feels like giving yourself an at-home facial. It comes in beautiful glass packaging, too – not plastic! Jess told me that this glass packaging saved 335,000 plastic bottles from landfills and waterways last year!

Brilliant Brow Gel

I have tried a few brow gels, and while I don’t find too much wrong with any of them, this brow gel from Beautycounter is really formulated well and has become my new go-to. It’s a nice thick consistency so you can basically just swipe this over your brows and be done. I wear the Medium shade which isn’t too dark or too light. It’s like the goldilocks of eye brow gels.

If you’ve never used a brow gel before, you might want to start with this one. It’s pretty forgiving if you mess up. I actually wipe a good bit off the brush and back into the tube because the formulation is so thick. But that just means it’ll last you a lot longer.

Sheer Lipstick in shade, Twig

This is one of my favorite new lipsticks ever. First of all, Jess told me the Twig shade is one of the most popular sellers, and I totally get why. It’s the perfect shade of neutral but still gives you a little hint of color. I wear this lipstick most days.

Secondly, it doesn’t have that gross lipstick taste. You know the one. This sheer lipstick from Beautycounter actually smells nice. It’s more along the lines of a tasty lip gloss. The coverage is also really smooth and stays on for a good portion of the day. It doesn’t last through a lot of eating and drinking but I don’t think it’s a long-wear formulation anyway. Plus the packaging is a really pretty gold so I don’t mind taking it out of my purse to re-apply.

I’m going to continue on this journey with Beautycounter and keep reporting back. I’d love to know if you’ve tried these products and your thoughts on their performance.

  1. I love Beauty Counter! My niece, Emily Ehle introduced me. I like the peel, too! My favorites, though are the plumping oil (which I add to my moisturizer) and the foundation….sand is just the right color for me. Sheer, but with the right amount of coverage to even my complexion. I’ll have to try the sheer lipstick!

    1. Hi Sara! Good to hear from you! 😉 I’m glad to know you are also a fan of BeautyCounter. You’ll have to let me know what you think of the sheer lipstick when you try it. It’s so good! I need to get my hands on that plumping oil! Great call adding it to your moisturizer too. Thanks so much for stopping by and reading! xo – Erin
