Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a great week and looking forward to the weekend. I just wanted to share a cute little life update with our two girls. Bella and Lola keep us entertained around here, and their first pumpkin patch experience was no exception!
I’ve always wanted to go to a pumpkin patch and get some really fun photos of Bella, but most of her life was lived in Houston where the weather just doesn’t get cool enough to really feel like fall. No amount of pumpkins, hay bales, cute photo niches or iced coffee would make sweating our butts off worth it. So, I would usually just set up a couple pumpkins on the front porch and snap a few photos as quickly as possible before rushing back inside to the comfort of air conditioning.
Since moving to San Antonio, we’ve really enjoyed the weather. It’s amazing how we only moved 3.5 hours away and the weather can really be that different. When a cool front came through a couple weeks ago (on my birthday weekend, no less), we took advantage and threw everyone in the car and headed to a dog-friendly pumpkin patch.
Dog Mom Tip #1 – If you’re a dog mom like me, make sure that the pumpkin patch is dog-friendly before just showing up. I found information online as to whether or not our girls would be welcomed, and any place that did not specify I made sure to call. Most of them I spoke with said that well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.
We chose Pipe Creek Pumpkin Patch & Christmas Tree Farm because I had heard so many good things and they were a short drive away. The only thing I’m kicking myself about is not bringing a Christmas-y outfit to change into. We could have knocked out our Christmas card while we were there because they allow you to roam around rows and rows of Christmas trees. Even after almost 12 years I’m still making newbie dog mom mistakes. Note to self for next time!
Dog Mom Tip #2 – Arrive early, as in when they open. I thought we might beat the crowds a bit, but there were already a number of families there when we arrived. It gets crowded pretty quickly, so we took advantage of trying to get a family photo on the hay bales as soon as possible. Then we were free to just roam around and do what we wanted.
Pipe Creek has lots of activities for kids like pumpkin painting, scarecrow dressing, and a tractor train ride through the Christmas tree farm. We noticed another couple taking their dog on the tractor ride, which I think was allowed, but with two dogs in tow it would have been a little chaotic for us. Plus, Lola was in major A.D.D. mode as this was her first time at an event like this. I’m pretty sure she sniffed every…single…pumpkin!
Dog Mom Tip #3 – Bring all your dog mom supplies with you, like water and poop bags. I always make sure I have a bottle of water for Bella and Lola, but the sweet staff at Pipe Creek also offered to get us a bowl of water for them. I thought that was so nice! Bella and Lola also got lots of pets and attention from their staff, which really made us feel like we were welcomed as a family as much as everyone else with human children. Although we never had a potty incident, I always bring poop bags.
What We Wore
Let’s talk about Bella and Lola’s “outfits.” If you saw on my IG stories, I took the time to make a couple of bandanas for them. I originally went into my local craft store to buy orange bandanas but the selection was a little basic. Instead, I purchased a yard of orange fabric with white polka dots and just cut them to size from another bandana I already had. They looked so cute!
I was so happy to be able to wear a sweater! I had just purchased this beige crew neck because it’s really lightweight (just in case that cool front wasn’t so cool), and I loved the neutral color. I went with jeans because I knew I’d probably end up sitting in hay, and booties rounded out the look. I did have on a scarf when we left the house but it ended up being too warm. My newest Palmgrens bag kept all my essentials safe and allowed me to be in full dog mom mode, i.e. hands free to juggle leashes and an iPhone. That’s seriously a talent!

I basically had all my pumpkin patch dreams come true. My two sweet girls got to enjoy a day out of the house, socializing with others. We got some great photos out of it and made memories in the process. If you’re in the San Antonio/Central Texas area and are looking for a good dog-friendly pumpkin patch, head to Pipe Creek!
