Happy Blogiversary!

They say a lot can happen in a year. In the blogging world, the first year can make or break you, and most of the time it’s the latter. I’ve read over and over that most blogs don’t survive past a year (or even make it twelve months). I’m not sure I can fully express how thrilled I am to have hit the one year mark, and I’m still going strong! It’s not easy by any means. Blogging takes discipline, time management, and a whole heck of a lot of passion and commitment, among many other things.

I sat down to write this post and realized I have 5 big reflections from the past year. These are things I’ve learned, things I’m appreciative for, things I’ve accomplished, and things I’m looking forward to.

5 Reflections From an Amazing Year

My lovely readers…

Thank you to all of my dedicated readers and followers. Ever since I hit the “publish” button that first time, I am still amazed by the number of visitors I am gaining. I hope that I continue to inspire you with content that you want to read. There’s much more coming up in 2018, and I can’t wait to share the journey with you. Thank you for sharing your lives with me as well. I’ve followed along on many of your adventures, from buying a new home to getting married and even fighting cancer like the amazing warrior you are. Know that I hope to inspire you as much as you inspire me.

What it means to be FOHR Card Verified…

Your comments here and on social media mean the world to me, and I will always do my best to respond to each one. I am a real person, not a robot, and I read every comment. I like photos that interest me on Instagram and comment genuinely. I do not believe in purchasing followers or using “get ahead quick” schemes. As James Nord, founder of FOHR Card, said in a recent episode of A Drink With James, “You’re not going to hack your way to success.” I became FOHR Card Verified this year, and will continue to advocate for my fellow creatives, bloggers, and entrepreneurs. We live in a world where followers are bought and genuine influencers struggle to be recognized and heard. FOHR Card does an amazing job of keeping the influencer marketing business honest and mutually beneficial for both brands and creatives.

How blogging changed my life…

Blogging has literally changed my life. Nearly four years ago we moved to a new city and I didn’t know a single soul. Now I have an incredible group of talented and supportive women (shoutout to Blogging SATX!) who are carving out a creative niche in the world just like me. We have become great friends and support each other, often making suggestions as to how we can better improve our individual businesses.

The business of Cathedrals & Cafés…

Yes, blogging is a business. At least it is for me. I started Cathedrals & Cafés not only as a creative outlet, but to share my passion for travel and fashion with the goal of creating a lifestyle brand. I want to be a reliable source for travel advice, relatable personal style, and inspiration for women to “live a stylishly unscripted life.” I landed my first brand collaboration before turning a year old, another goal that I was hoping to achieve. And I promise I will always provide an honest review of any brand or product that I partner with.

Going full-time…

One of my biggest goals is to grow Cathedrals & Cafés into a full-time career. I’m not sure what that timeline looks like, and I’m not even sure I should expect one. But it remains a goal and I strive to realize it by maintaining a purposeful approach to every post, photograph, collaboration, or comment. I could never chase my dreams without the support of my husband. I’m sure he gets tired of hearing “Will you take some pictures for me?” but he doesn’t complain. He has supported every investment I’ve made in myself (graduate school is just one example), and he continues to amaze me with his unending support.

If there is anything that you would like to see more of on Cathedrals & Cafés please leave me a comment. Thank you for stopping by this little space on the Internet. I love you all.
