I’ve always been a fan of olive green. Whether it’s gracing my sleeve or floating in my martini stuffed with blue cheese. In today’s post, I’m delving into the former – this soft and cozy olive green crocheted sweater. Perfect for date night and a whole flight of martinis, this project came to life quickly and the fit is chef’s kiss!
Olive is a color that I’ve always gravitated towards in my wardrobe, in spite of my efforts to remain strictly neutral (although olive green is in a way its own neutral when paired correctly or worn monochromatically). I noticed quite a few olive green silhouette’s during New York Fashion Week, with Pantone naming Martini Olive (PANTONE 18-0625) as part of the Autumn/Winter 2022/2023 NYFW color palette. I guess I’ve just always been ahead of trends. 😉 Ha!
Back to the sweater…
This is the Portsmouth Sweater designed by Angie Bivins of Whistle and Wool. I purchased the crochet kit from Lion Brand here and used Lion Brand’s Basic Stitch Anti Pilling™ yarn in the color Olive, of course. Its name pays homage to the designer’s English Gran and how she taught her to knit at a young age. You also get a little history into the city of Portsmouth, England when you buy the PDF pattern. I just loved that little extra to it!
I made my version exactly per the pattern in a size XS and found the fit to be perfect. You can adjust the sleeves for a longer fit if you like, but I chose for them to hit the elbow for a more transition to fall piece. I loved the “X” stitch throughout the body and sleeves, which gives it such a nice texture. The neckline is also really flattering.
Last weekend we tried a new-to-us restaurant here in Amsterdam called Gertrude. I had just finished this sweater earlier that day and decided to go ahead and take it for a spin. I paired it with wide leg denim, suede booties, and an orange bag from Polène for a complimenting pop of color. I even traded in my usual diamond stud earrings for a pair of rose gold hoops! It was the perfect outfit for a rainy date night in Amsterdam! We sat on the covered heated terrace and enjoyed a round of dishes including bread with smoked butter and pork belly topped with dried tuna (I know, sounds bizarre but it was so good!). Gertrude definitely has a rustic feel (be prepared for some cracked plates) but I would recommend it. The inside is also cozy and beautiful.
All this talk of food and drink…I think a martini is calling my name. With olives. Lots of olives! How was your week?
