Happy Friday Eve, friends! I thought it was time for a little dog mom update, especially since we spent the whole weekend celebrating our sweet Lola who turned 2 years old on Saturday! As usual, I put together a little party at home. And this time around we had a LOT to celebrate because this dog mom has been through the wringer these last two weeks!
Here’s what’s been going on…
It started when I noticed a little bump on the top of one of Lola’s toes. I thought maybe she had been bitten by something but the bump didn’t go away. I believe that any time you see something strange on your fur baby, you take them to the vet for an expert opinion. But of course my imagination got the best of me and I was Googling things I shouldn’t have been. Do you ever feel like we have too much information at our fingertips? I mean, sometimes I don’t need to know as much as I do. Everything I Googled was just awful!
The vet examined it and determined that it should be removed and a biopsy should be done. Naturally when you hear the word biopsy you panic a little. At least, I do. Ok, I panicked quite a bit and pretty much cried in the shower often. She’s my little baby and it was killing me. Her surgery was scheduled for a week later and every day of that week was like torture. I figured the procedure would go well, but still, surgery is surgery you know?
Lola’s surgery went fine but then we had to wait on the biopsy results. Another agonizing few days went by. I was starting to think we would be going into the weekend without any news and it really brought me down. (By the way, thank you to all my sweet friends on Instagram who prayed for Lola and sent me encouraging messages. It means everything!) By the end of the week I was exhausted and had a pounding migraine. I needed good news.
On Friday our vet called with the results and the bottom line is that Lola is going to be ok. Although the bump was cancerous, they tend to be mostly benign and the cytologist’s report said that the excision was the cure. So, our little baby was going to be ok and her mom could finally relax. Being that it was also Mother’s Day weekend, this was the best present I could ever have received.
So we CELEBRATED! And I mean celebrated BIG!
Lola had a Snoopy themed birthday party with lots of colorful decorations, a big birthday banner, and a cake I made (that was mostly for the humans). I loved the “Top Dog” party hats I found, and we put them on to FaceTime with family. She also had Peanuts themed treats from BarkBox and I bought a champagne bottle chew toy from HEB. We even managed to get out of the house for lunch at The Divide, a local food truck park that is dog friendly. Both of our girls had so much fun!
It’s been a little over a week since her surgery and she will get her stitches taken out next Tuesday. I can’t wait for that so that she can run around again like usual. Although I have to say, our vet did an incredible job on her foot and she really hasn’t had any trouble.
We love you so much, Lola! You are just the sweetest and most affectionate little dog we’ve ever had! I can’t wait to throw more birthday parties for years to come!
