A few weeks ago I sent out a poll on Instagram about home decor and the results were overwhelmingly yes, more home decor posts please! Well, I’m happy to oblige! I mentioned that I wanted to make some updates to my entryway, and today’s post is all about how I did that. I’m sharing what pieces I added, which things were repurposed from other areas of my home, and how I decided on the juxtaposition so that a simple collection of pieces creates an entryway update that looks like much more effort went into it.

Entryway Update
The first thing I did was remove everything.
I needed a clean and empty space in order to visualize the look I wanted. The old entryway was just that – old. It felt tired and certainly not the first impression I wanted someone to have when they come to my home. Was it terrible? No, but it had some pieces that have made several moves with us and it was time for them to retire.
The things I kept were the table lamp, table runner, and my grandparents’ college yearbooks. Everything else is a new piece I either bought or brought from another part of the house. The overall feel I wanted was an eclectic mix of delicate and chunky pieces for texture, personal items for a homey feel, and natural elements to lighten up the space.
Our entryway table has a bottom shelf that’s perfect for storage pieces, so I added a basket for throw blankets. I found the perfect woven basket with faux leather handles and I placed a cream colored throw blanket I already had inside. I can’t locate the exact basket to link but this woven basket set is really pretty and very similar (and I think a good price for a set of two). As for the table itself, I’ve had it forever. It was actually my parents’ table and was in the house I grew up in as a kid. This thing has been around!
I centered the basket and flanked it with stacks of my grandparents’ college yearbooks from the 1940’s. I just love that I have these. My grandparents met at Pomona College in Claremont, California when they were just teenagers. My grandmother was 17 and my grandfather was 16 (yes, he went to college at 16, the smartypants :-)). I love their love story, and having a memento from where it all began is priceless to me. I added a couple of other random books in dark tones to add a little more height.
On the top of the entryway table I placed my table runner and lamp. I love the cozy lighting this little lamp provides. I’ve had this lamp forever, but found this wood accent lamp and I love it. I found these cord clips to hide the cord behind everything and I love them. I’ve added these little clips all over the house now to keep unsightly cords out of the way.
To balance the lamp, I added two glass demijohn type bottles in a large and small size. These glass bottles are perfect for all kinds of spaces. I added faux eucalyptus stems for that natural element and to give the space some height.
Centered on the table are two framed pieces. One is a very cute “c’est la vie” artwork and the other is a vintage photograph of my grandfather playing in the orchestra. Obviously I love it for sentimental reasons, but I also just really love vintage black and white photography.
Lastly, I had these oversized clay rosary beads that I found at a local antique shop a few years ago. I loved it but never really had the right place for it. Now that it’s on the entryway table, I think it gives some great texture. I have some other wooden beads throughout the house and I love the way they look.
I really love how my entryway update turned out. It’s simple but beautiful and it has meaning with personal touches. I didn’t want to just find random things at HomeGoods (although I love HomeGoods). I wanted this space to feel more personal than that.
