At the end of every month I find myself wondering where the time went. During this age of COVID (ugh…so tired of this) I feel like time is this gelatinous blob keeping me in some sort of suspended animation. Every day I go through the same motions. Literally the exact same motions. Nothing changes, so it’s like one long day that never ends. But when I need to flip the page on my calendar to a new month, I’m like wait a minute…I want a do-over!
Outfit details: (because dressing up in real clothes is also something to look forward to) Puff Sleeve Top | Cropped White Denim | Sandals (they’re last season, but these and these are really cute!) | Palmgrens Rattan Clutch (similar, less expensive option here) | Sunglasses
Except that I really don’t want to go back. Ever…this has been the weirdest few months. On the other hand, I’m grateful to be in the position we’re in. My husband and I can both work from home, and comfortably so. I really have nothing to complain about. But sometimes the monotony just gets old. So, what helps when you need to escape the same old same old, when you need a laugh, when you need to daydream, when you need some inspiration? A good movie! (Also a good book – I have posts for those here!). This post is everything we binged in July. Be sure to check out my other binge watch posts for April, May, and June.
This month we went heavier on 80s to 2000s movies and documentaries. We got into a documentary series called The Pharmacist that took up a few nights. It was pretty fascinating. We are also still watching Perry Mason on HBO. We almost gave up on it, but the show has really picked up the last few episodes. Another series we’ve peppered in is The Twilight Zone. I’m talking about the original black and white series. They’re short episodes of around 20 minutes each and really good!
We also changed our binge watch schedule for the week. Now that Paul is going back to the office a couple days a week, we’ve made Monday a free night and Thursdays are now for classics. If you’re new to the blog you’re probably wondering why we have a schedule. It’s not a set rule or anything, but it helps us to have something to look forward to each night of the week. And having something to look forward to is really important right now!
Our *Updated* Weekly Binge Watching Schedule:
Monday – Free
Tuesday – Documentary
*Wednesday – Free
*Thursday – Classics
Friday – 80s/90s/2000s
Saturday – New Releases
Sunday – TV/streamed shows
80s/90s/2000s
An American Werewolf in London – Kind of campy but loved it. Special effects are great.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona – Check out my Fashion + Food + Film about it here!
European Vacation – Always a classic. I can quote every line!
When Harry Met Sally – Had forgotten how good this one is.
The Crush – Woa! Creeeeeeeepy!
Clueless – “As if” you couldn’t watch it…
Documentary
They Shall Not Grow Old – Amazingly re-mastered. Not often you see a WWI doc.
The Pharmacist docuseries – A sad yet fascinating look at the opioid crisis.
Apollo 11 – Another amazingly re-mastered look at the moon landing.
Honeyland – Grab the tissues, but so good!
The Endless Summer – A 1966 doc about surfing that takes you around the world.
How Dogs Got Their Shapes – Perfect for dog lovers. Lots of cuteness.
New Release
6 Underground – Probably a good “plane movie” but since we can’t travel right now, on the couch is good too. Action, action, and more action.
Terminator: Dark Fate – LOVE the Terminator movies and this one was pretty good!
A Simple Favor – Now I’m wanting to read the book it’s based on. Dark, mysterious, sometimes funny…a good “guilty pleasure movie.”
Troop Zero – One of the cutest movies I’ve seen in a long time. Great cast.
Classics
The Italian Job – Loved seeing a young Michael Caine in this one. Also, the Mini Coopers are neat.
Singing in the Rain – Have formed a bit of a crush on Gene Kelly. Great music in this one.
Summertime – Katharine Hepburn shines in this one as a middle-aged woman who has never found love. Plus, it’s set in one of my favorite Italian cities – Venice! Be looking for a Fashion + Food + Film soon on this one!
Shows
The Handmaid’s Tale – Behind on this one, no spoilers please! Great series so far!
Below Deck Med – The only reality show we watch. It’s inspired some of our recent travels.
Perry Mason on HBO – Gritty, dark, graphic…good.
The Twilight Zone (original series) – Great story lines and it’s fun to pick out famous actors who make appearances, like a very young Robert Redford.
Pass the popcorn! What are you binge watching right now?
