If you’ve met the shacket, allow me to introduce you to its cousin, the coatigan! Before you laugh (I did), it does make a little sense. Is it a coat? Is it a cardigan? Is it just a bigger longer sweater with possibly a tie at the waist? The simple answer is just yes. It’s a bit of all those things. Coatigans or sweater coats are pretty much the best “in between” piece of outerwear I have. When it’s cold enough to layer up but I feel silly in a full blown parka, I reach for the coatigan! In today’s post I’m sharing a recent coatigan find plus a roundup of other coatigans and sweater coats to love!
Over the holidays I was doing some shopping with my in-laws and spotted this cute coatigan at Wal-Mart of all places. I was actually pretty impressed with the thickness and overall quality for the price. I also really liked the large brown plaid pattern (which sadly is now sold out). BUT, they do have some in other cute patterns still in stock! I will link them for you in the outfit details below.
I threw this coatigan on the other day with my wide leg jeans and some suede booties and immediately felt a little 60s/70s chic. The older I get the more I find myself not really wanting to buy into the current trends but to embrace classic styles from generations past and incorporate them into my wardrobe in a modern way. I think that’s what makes a style classic a classic. It can be adapted in new ways and yet it still maintains that essence from when it first appeared.
