This week’s favorites are all about travel, my favorite thing to do. We leave for Scandinavia in a few days (start following on Instagram for all our crazy adventures), and I’m really excited! I always get excited for our “big trip” of the year but I’m pretty excited this year because we are flying first class. I cannot express how relieved I’ll be to actually get to lay down and get some real sleep on the way there. It’s a luxury that I am grateful for the opportunity to have. We haven’t flown like this before so I’ll be sure to share how it goes.
We have a pretty long schedule of connecting flights to get all the way to Tallinn, Estonia, our first stop. So I’m always looking for ways to make the journey easier. I’ll be posting some of our own international travel tips soon, but here’s a great collection of helpful articles from around the interwebs until then.
This week’s travel photo is from Portovenere, Italy. I just can’t get enough of the ice cream colored buildings of the Mediterranean. I snapped this photo on a boat that we took from Manarola. Seeing a place from the water is a great way to capture beautiful photos. We docked and then explored the castle and Byron’s Grotto.
Google Flights
Have you tried Google Flights? You can search flights across different airlines, see a map to plan a specific route, and even let Google plan out a trip based on best departure/arrival times. You can set up price alerts to know when fares might be going up. Have you tried this yet? We tend to stick with one airline for points reasons, but if you’re not using an airline loyalty program this might be a good tool to try.
Coach to First Class
Even if you’re not flying first class, there are some things you can do to help make you feel like you are. In this list of 31 things for your next flight there’s everything from proper neck pillows to beauty products to a detachable footrest.
Travel-Sized Beauty
I am not one of those girls with a huge bag dedicated to beauty and makeup products. It’s really not fun lugging heavy bags down (or up) a cobblestone street, so I’ve subscribed to the less is more method when we travel. If it’s a quick weekend trip I never check a bag but international travel for a couple of weeks pretty much requires me to. You can still look great if you invest in the right travel-sized beauty products. This list from InStyle includes a couple of my favorites like Moroccanoil hair treatment and Supergoop! Sunscreen.
Travel Photography
I shoot almost all of my travel photos with a Nikon D5500. Our iPhones are also helpful for quick selfies or places where getting a larger camera out might be too difficult or even dangerous. There are a lot of technical photography tips out there but I really like this list of 12 tips for better vacation photos from Nikon. I take hundreds of photos so #7 on the list is something I always do, and I’m really guilty of NOT doing #11.
Travel Hangover?
Once you get home from your amazing vacation, it can be hard to get back into the swing of normalcy. I am reminded of my two week pasta/wine/gelato binge in Italy a couple years ago. In A Health Coach’s Guide to Recovering from a Gluttonous Vacation from the EveryGirl, there is a 5-day detox plan as well as tips for before you go.
No matter what just remember to travel safe and enjoy the journey!
