I love a festive holiday party, but figuring out what to wear can be a challenge. For me, it’s really the only time of year when wearing sequins and sparkles is comfortable. I know some fabulous ladies who can pull off these adornments in the middle of summer, but yours truly saves these things for the holidays. I prefer to shimmer in a more understated and classic way, and usually go for satin or velvet in my outfit with a sequined accessory or two. In this post I’m going to share outfit inspiration whether your holiday party is elevated business attire, cocktail attire, or formal attire.
Before diving into my guide to holiday party style, there are three things that I think about when planning my outfit. Even though I always err on the side of being overdressed (and this applies to everything, not just a holiday party), I consider the following when selecting my outfit.
Theme – Does the holiday party have a theme? Think Gatsby, Casino Night, or a masquerade.
Location – Where is the party? Is it in a swanky lounge downtown, on a rooftop bar, a hotel ballroom, or in someone’s home?
Time – Usually a holiday party is held in the evening but are we talking early evening or late evening? This can mean the difference between elevated business attire or a full on gala look.
My holiday party style guide starts with upscale business attire and gets progressively fancier. We usually have a few different engagements that require a bit of all of this, so I hope this helps you find your perfect outfit.
