It’s the coziest time of year for crochet projects and I’ve been busy expanding my repertoire! I wrote about this new hobby of mine in this post, where I crocheted a French market tote and some other fun and cute accessories. Today I’m sharing my most recent piece – this beautiful crochet sweater vest and how I’m styling it!
Rewind back to last season when I tried ordering two sweater vests and both just didn’t do it for me. This year I thought I could try making one myself and I’m so pleased with how it turned out. I really wanted a slouchy sweater vest in a neutral color with minimal details. This sweater vest checked all the boxes!
Look One:
Outfit details: Sweater Vest (par moi) | Turtleneck | Faux Leather Detail Leggings (similar style here) | Tory Burch Boots (similar option here) | YSL Rive Gauche Tote
I love the ribbed detailing along the v-neck, bottom, and sleeves. And I love the bit of drama the sleeves bring to the table. I also really love the “oats” color yarn I used. I’ve been jokingly referring to this as my “Hall and Oates” sweater vest and now I have Maneater in my head whenever I put it on. And they say clothes can’t give you a confidence boost. LOL
Look Two:
Outfit details: Denim | Oversized Ruffle-Collared Shirt (similar here) | Booties | Polène Cyme Mini Bag
This crochet sweater vest worked up really quickly. From start to finish it took me a week to complete. That sounds like a long time but I don’t sit down and crochet for hours everyday, just a little at a time in the evenings. I used 3.5 skeins of Yarn Bee ID yarn from Hobby Lobby and a 5.0mm crochet hook. I found this crochet hook set and think it’s great for anyone getting started. It has all the size hooks you’ll need plus a few other necessities in a case for a really good price.
This sweater vest was one of the most relaxing projects I’ve done so far. Because of the repetitive HDC (half-double crochet) stitches, you can really zone out while making it.
If you want to try making this crochet sweater vest yourself, you can find the free pattern from Crochet With Carrie.
If making your own sweater vest sounds a little daunting, I’ve linked a bunch of similar styles so you can recreate this look.
So, are sweater vests for you?
