Introducing: The Riviera Collection! It’s here! My first crochet pattern collection I designed  launches today with five crochet patterns inspired by the Côte d’Azur! You may recall I released a sneak peek of the Tote d’Azur a while ago, and while you can also find the pattern for it on that post, all of the Riviera Collection patterns are available for FREE on this post!

About the Riviera Collection

The Riviera Collection consists of five crochet patterns named after and inspired by the French Riviera. The collection has easy – intermediate level crochet patterns to wear, accessorize, and entertain with. All of the yarns I used are from Hobbii, however this post and collection are not sponsored by Hobbii. I discovered Hobbii after moving to Amsterdam last year. I love their customer service and selection, and they also have an online catalog of free crochet patterns. They run sales pretty regularly and have a great newsletter to keep up-to-date on them.

This is my first ever crochet design collection. I started crocheting 18 months ago and have never looked back. I’m absolutely addicted and have crocheted just about everything you can imagine. You can see all my crochet projects here. I started thinking about designing my own crochet patterns at the end of last year and came up with the Riviera Collection.

Am I a crochet enthusiast? Absolutely! Am I a newbie crochet designer? Absolutely! Am I a crochet teacher? No. I am not available for pattern support. However, these patterns have been proofed by my pattern editor.

Inspiration for the Riviera Collection

The inspiration for my Riviera Collection comes from our travels to the south of France. I love this part of the world and feel very blessed to have been able to travel there. Think of pastel whitewashed buildings, gentle waves crashing over a pebbly beach, striped umbrellas and the perfect apéritif. The Riviera Collection is a way to enjoy all the joie de vivre the French Riviera brings everyday. When I think of summer, I think of the Côte d’Azur, simple as that!

Crochet Tote Bag Pattern designed by Erin of Cathedrals & Cafes

The Tote d’Azur is the first design in my Riviera Collection. Its name is inspired by the Côte d’Azur, the beautiful Mediterranean coast known as the French Riviera. I love traveling in the south of France and am always inspired by the pastel whitewashed buildings, clear blue sea, and the woven tote bags carried by chic visitors and locals alike. This tote is perfect for perusing the farmers’ market or taking to the beach. It fits a bottle of rosé and other picnic essentials but can easily be the perfect accessory for a stylish seaside apéritif. I like to wear it with my favorite sundress and espadrilles.

I really wanted to create the effect of a classic woven tote bag you see in outdoor markets across Europe. The World of Yarn Java from Hobbii in the color Sandy (03) was the right choice. It gives the bag that natural fiber look and also provides some good structure.

Crochet Tank Top Free Pattern designed by Erin of Cathedrals & Cafes

The Très Jolie Tank Top is a lightweight piece for feeling chic and comfy in the warm summer sun. The neutral color makes it perfect to pair with just about anything, and the 100% cotton fibers will keep you cool. It’s perfect over your favorite bikini top, bandeau, or bralette. I like to wear mine with a pair of white pants or denim cutoffs and flat sandals.

I wanted to use a really soft lightweight cotton that would work well in hot climates. The Friends Cotton 8/4 by Hobbii was the perfect choice. It comes in a bunch of beautiful colors, but as those who know me know…neutrals are always my go to. I used the color Beige (05) and love how versatile it makes this top.

Please note that this pattern is offered for FREE and available in size Medium only, as shown on model.

Crochet Hair Scarf Free Pattern designed by Erin of Cathedrals & Cafes

The Saint-Tropez Skinny Scarf, another fun piece in my Riviera Collection, is a beautiful blue and white accessory with lots of versatility. Inspired by gently cresting waves of the blue Mediterranean Sea, when worn as a hair ribbon it invokes a vintage feel of a 1950s sunbathing Grace Kelly. This skinny scarf works not only as a hair accessory but can be worn as a neckerchief or attached to a bag. It’s an easy way to add a little chic to any look. I love wearing it as a headband with oversized sunglasses.

I also used Friends Cotton 8/4 by Hobbii for this design. It’s a study but soft cotton yarn that makes it easy to machine wash. Shown in colors White (01) and Midnight Blue (87).

Crochet Summer Wrap Free Pattern designed by Erin of Cathedrals & Cafes

The Sur la Mer Wrap is a wonderful wrap for summer. Made in a light cotton blend, it provides the perfect amount of warmth on a chilly summer night, yet is breathable enough for warmer summer days when you want a little coverage or that extra accessory to your outfit. Drape it over your shoulders or wear it like I do as more of a bandana/neckerchief. The seashell stitch made with pastel ombré hues in the yarn is an homage to all the iridescent shells that wash up on Mediterranean shores.

For this pattern I went with Acacia Print by Hobbii, as I loved the variegated look and soft feel. I used Golden Tan (02) but it comes in some other really nice colors. If you’d like a larger wrap, just continue adding rows until your desired size is met.

Crochet Coasters and Bottle Cozy Free Pattern designed by Erin of Cathedrals & Cafes

The Apéro Set is perfect for stylishly sipping a French 75 or glass of rosé in the summer sun without those pesky watermarks and condensation. The blue and beige tones intermingle like the blue Mediterranean waters and warm sandy beaches of the Côte d’Azur. Make as many as you like for yourself or give them as a surprise gift at your next apéro hour with friends. The matching bottle cozy fits a standard 750ml wine bottle, or can be used for your favorite sparkling water or lemonade.

For the bottle cozy I used World of Yarn Java from Hobbii in Sandy (03) again because I had a bit leftover from the Tote d’Azur. It’s a great yarn for projects that need to stand on their own like this one. The colorful trim and coasters are made with Friends Cotton 8/4 by Hobbii in the colors Oatmilk (03), Beige (05), Midnight Blue (87), and Deep Ocean (89).

I love that this pattern is actually a 2-in-1! You can just make the coasters or the bottle cozy, but when made together they make a cute set. Perfect for yourself or as a gift!
