It’s All In The Details: A Classic Neutral Crochet Sweater

Crochet, Fashion / Friday, February 3rd, 2023

It’s all in the details with this classic neutral crochet sweater! What first drew me to this design were the details along the neckline. The combination of puff stitches and cable stitches really elevate an otherwise basic neutral sweater. And while I love a good basic, I love an elevated basic (a term you’ve probably heard used amongst fans of monochromatic, minimalistic, and neutral dressing, like myself) even more. An elevated basic is really versatile and takes a rather boring outfit and just gives it that je ne sais quoi that I’m always after. While it took me a lot longer to complete this one, due to the abundance of repetitive single crochet rows, it was all worth it in the end. Let’s dive in…

Watch my reel of this sweater (i.e. see it in real life) – everyone loved the details! I styled it two ways, one to wear now while the weather is still chilly and one to wear later as we head towards summer.

This is the Weave and Wander Sweater designed by Olivia at Hopeful Honey. I bought the kit from Lion Brand and have to say that the yarn is absolutely perfect. It’s soft and a little squishy, and definitely not heavy at all. After blocking the pieces, I just loved how the sweater draped. It flows over you in a very relaxed, I-didn’t-try-too-hard-to-be-chic kind of way. Olivia’s pattern is well-written and very easy to follow. She has a lot of beautiful designs and patterns on her website and Instagram!

Since it’s still quite cold here in Amsterdam, I’m wearing it with denim and a jacket. As the weather warms up, I really see this sweater paired with white linen pants or shorts while cruising the canals on a boat! It’s the perfect lightweight coverup for enjoying the outdoors. For now, I grabbed my favorite white cropped denim and espadrilles to see what it would look like when it warms up around here and I love it!

I’d say this is a project for an intermediate level crocheter, or maybe an ambitious beginner. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to wear it out soon!

This is the last project I completed before starting on my first crochet design. I shared in my recent newsletter (sign up here) that I will be designing some of my own crochet pieces in 2023 – eek, so scary! But I’m determined to achieve this goal this year. I have a total of 6 pieces I sketched out that comprise a small collection. The yarn for the first one just got delivered! If everything goes well I’m planning a summer release for the patterns. It may depend on yarn availability and time (we have a busy spring), but the collection is for warm weather so hopefully I can do it. I know my pattern tester is eager to get started!

Wish me luck!
