Latest Binge List + A Work-to-Weekend Look

Fashion, Lifestyle, Movies / Monday, October 12th, 2020

Happiest of Mondays to you! I hope you’re doing well and being safe and healthy. I took a couple months off from sharing our binge watch lists because once football was back in season, our movie nights took a little bit of a side step. But I’m back today with a list of movies we’ve been bingeing PLUS a work-to-weekend look that I’m loving. Now that Paul is back in the office most days a week, I wanted to share an outfit that is great for going from the conference room to cocktails. It’s part of my styling adventure with Macy’s (read all about that here), and I love so many things about it.

Outfit: Blazer | Top | Denim | Boots | Bag

But first, let’s get to the latest binge list! (some of these are pretty goofy)

80s/90s/2000s

Necessary Roughness – Definitely a B sports movie but it’s a feel-gooder to watch whenever it’s on TV. And I like Scott Bakula, so there you go.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves – Morgan Freeman’s lines make this movie, but it’s tough to get past the non-existent English accent from Kevin Costner. I saw this in the theater as a kid and still love the soundtrack and the surprise cameo at the end.

Funny Farm – A Chevy Chase classic. I found myself wanting that farmhouse!

Unforgiven – This has been on our list for a long time, and I love Clint Eastwood, BUT…we didn’t even finish it. Sorry not sorry. I’d give it a D.

The Money Pit – This 80s classic is one of my all-time favorites! I always laugh until I cry when Tom Hanks gets stuck in the floor. Even in all its 80s design glory, I still love how the house turns out.

Pacific Heights – This is a great one for October. Really creepy! Michael Keaton does a great job with such a dark role.

Fletch – Another Chevy Chase classic. I think my husband can quote every line.

Bridesmaids – I had forgotten how hilarious this movie is. Raunchy? Sure. But these days I need something so ridiculous to remind myself to take things less seriously.

Down And Out In Beverly Hills – Never seen it before but so glad I did. This has turned out to be one of my favorite 80s comedies.

Documentary

Always At The Carlyle – A fascinating look at the behind-the-scenes activity at one of the most luxurious hotels and its famous inhabitants and guests.

Diego Maradona – The rise and fall of one of soccer’s greatest athletes. Eye-opening and sad at times.

High Score – A fun documentary series about the history of video games. Fellow 80s babies will love this one.

New Release

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – I actually enjoyed this installment. Seeing an iconic thing (don’t want to spoil it for you) from past Star Wars films was pretty cool.

Joker – Joaquin Phoenix earned his Oscar for this one. A very well done tragedy.

Palm Springs – A little comedy with a thought-provoking story. Humor at an SNL level. Recommend.

The Old Guard – A Netflix movie that was absolutely TERRIBLE. I like Charlize Theron but this movie was just bad. The acting was bad. The story was bad. We turned it off halfway through.

Doctor Sleep – As a Stephen King fan, I couldn’t wait to see the sequel to The Shining. I thought it was well done, plus you get to revisit the Overlook Hotel again. Super creepy.

Classics

Vertigo – Possibly my favorite Alfred Hitchcock movie ever. A psychological thriller that will absolutely haunt you.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Not the greatest of all the Star Trek movies but you have to start somewhere with this series.

The Philadelphia Story – Three of my favorite classic actors – Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and James Stewart – and a story that is both funny and romantic. The clothes are also gorgeous.

A Work-to-Weekend Look

This work-to-weekend look is probably all about the blazer. It’s no secret I’m in a blazer mood these days, and this one is so good. It feels slightly more like suiting but is still versatile enough to pair with jeans. There is no collar or lapel making it even more sleek and I love the cuffed sleeves.

Two other things I love about this look are the pointed toe suede booties and the wine hued satchel bag. A skinny jean is important here as are understated accessories. It’s definitely a great work-to-weekend (or work-to-wine ;-)) look. I really appreciate my Macy’s stylists for helping me put this one together.
