I’ve never been to so many outdoor markets on a single trip and I’m loving it! Centering our days around each of the unique markets in the Luberon has enabled us to visit some truly amazing villages. Lourmarin was an absolute delight in so many ways. It completely encompasses everything I enjoy about small French villages – a focus on cafe culture, boutique shops, cobbled streets hugging blue-shuttered houses, and a general sense of la vie est belle. There is even a medieval castle looking over the city to complete the fairytale feel.
On Fridays the market in Lourmarin is buzzing with vendors selling exquisite produce, colorful linen dresses, woven basket bags, espadrilles, jewelry, locally made honey and confitures, fresh bread, sunflowers, lavender, and more. It was a much larger market than I was expecting, and you must arrive early if you want any chance at a parking spot. I could have spent hours just leisurely strolling by each stall (and we practically did just that). I picked up a pair of blue and white striped espadrilles for a mere ten euros!
After perusing the outdoor market, we found a cafe to grab petit-déjeuner. The morning special was a hot beverage, glass of orange juice and choice of croissant or bread with butter and jam for just five euros. Sipping cappuccino in the shade of a cafe umbrella and watching the bustling street before us really made me feel like a local. And I love that feeling.
We spent some time walking around the village and popping into shops. Lourmarin is definitely a shopping haven. I saw more crochet bags and will definitely be pulling some inspiration from them for future pattern designs.
So far, Lourmarin is high on my list of must-visit Luberon villages. I could still be sitting at that cafe sipping cappuccino.
Bonsoir et à demain!
