I’ve always seen these fishnet style market bags when we travel throughout Europe but I never really knew this bag had so much history or even that it had a proper name. The Normandy, France based company, Filt, has been producing these fishnet style bags, called filet, since the 1860s. These lightweight, expandable, and stylish French filet bags have been gracing farmers markets, picnics, and everyday errands for generations. They’re just as perfect for toting around the perfect baguette and a bottle of wine as they are your sunscreen and phone at the beach.
You don’t have to spend a lot on your first filet market bag but…
…I kind of splurged a bit on mine. (I know you’re not surprised ;-))
As a longtime fan of Longchamp, I loved the collaboration between them and Filt. Of course the minute I order the Longchamp X Filt Filet Bag, it becomes sold out. And I mean everywhere! I was lucky that Paul managed to find one (possibly the last one) from Bloomingdale’s online. Now, sites like Poshmark are re-selling it for nearly 3 times the price, which is just crazy to me. But I guess that means that this particular bag was really popular. Hopefully it comes back in stock in even more colors. I cannot wait to bring my Longchamp Filet with us on vacation next month!

If you want to get in on the French filet market bag trend while being sustainably smart, eco-friendly, and zero waste at the same time, I found a few very affordable options. I’ve already ditched my plastic grocery bags with reusable bags and now I’m adding the French filet market bag to the mix. It certainly goes with any outfit.
