Before ruffle shorts, I had always considered shorts to be more of a need than a want. I don’t desire to shop for shorts like I do shoes or dresses or bags or…well, anything else in my closet actually. They’re just not that exciting. For me, shorts have just been the piece you throw on with a t-shirt during the summer just because it’s so hot. I do love a pair of denim cutoffs but my shorts have always taken a backseat to whatever else I’m wearing, like an off-shoulder top or a pair of statement earrings.
Since buying these ruffle shorts, I’ve changed my tune about what I used to consider fashion’s stepchild. I love the ruffle detail! Of course I bought black so that I could pair them with anything (it’s also my safe color when I’m unsure about a trend). The front panel is flat with no zippers or buttons. There’s an elastic band in the back so they just slip on, which makes it easy to tuck a top into. The crepe fabric also drapes really nicely and they’re not too short.
These shorts are a great alternative to a dress for date night. They actually mimic the movement of a skirt when you walk. I love wearing skinny jeans and heels but sometimes my legs just need a breather, especially during the Texas summers. Ruffle shorts are perfect for heels or wedges, my go to shoe most of the time. But you could do a cute pair of slides or mules, too.
I went as simple as possible with this outfit. I grabbed a basic tank and layered some necklaces. A pair of nude heels and a structured bag and I was ready for date night.

I rounded up a few other ruffle shorts styles that I’m eyeing now. I especially love the olive green pair that ties at the waist.
