The Highlands Wrap & Confessions of a Newly Converted Fall Weather Worshiper

Crochet, Fashion / Friday, September 30th, 2022

September arrived and Fall was riding its coattails all the way. It is so unusual to be wearing seasonally appropriate clothing right now. For many of you, the Fall season is a no brainer for things like chunky knits, spiced cider, and apple picking. I am a child of Texas, however, so idyllic scenes of families up to their necks in Ralph Lauren wool plaid while posing amongst multi-colored leaves and pumpkin patches is something I’ve always thought only existed in the movies. I mean, where can people really do that? I think I’m still traumatized from sweating profusely through my Halloween costume every year as a kid. It just never got that comfortably cool in Texas. We had summer, then a brief period of freeze your you-know-whats off, followed by more summer. The cycle of weather abuse was a little tiresome.

Fast forward to 2022 and I’m experiencing a whole new dimension of wardrobe exploration I never knew was possible (thank you, Amsterdam). You mean I can actually wear all these sweaters that for some reason I own in spite of mother nature’s endless pursuit of turning Texas into Hell every year? Hallelujah, pass the cable knit!

Except that it’s not cable knit, it’s this gorgeous crochet wrap I finished just in time for snuggle season! I actually just said snuggle season. Who am I? I blame the cooler temps for freezing a part of my brain.

This is the Highlands Wrap designed by Alexi Tavel of Two of Wands.

Watch my Reel featuring it here!

It has everything a newly converted Fall weather worshiper would want. It’s chunky, it’s soft, has tassels, and can be worn a variety of ways for maximum coziness. Plus the colors! Can we talk about these colors for a second? This wrap is a beautiful blend of dark and light yarn that when crocheted together reminds me of the perfect coffee shop latte or hot tea with just a hint of milk. Wrap up in this and you can almost feel the steam rising from your oversized mug. The yarn used is Hue+Me from Lion Brand, a collaboration between Lion Brand and Two of Wands. The dark black color is called Werewolf, and let’s face it…does that not just beckon you to cloak yourself in this wrap, grab a gothic novel and a glass of wine, and seclude yourself from the wind whipping at your window?

Want to make one for yourself? It’s perfect for beginners or any skill level. You can purchase the kit like I did from Lion Brand here (comes with all the yarn you need), or buy the pattern directly from Two of Wands here

I’m coming up on my 1-year crochet anniversary… a crochetversary? I can’t believe I’ve been crocheting for that long. Looking back at my previous crochet posts, I am amazed at what I’ve been able to make as a YouTube-taught crocheter (well, I did have some help from my mom – thanks, mom!). It’s been so much fun challenging myself. I’m always on the hunt for the next interesting or cool pattern to attempt. If you’re a crochet designer and want me to test one of your patterns, send me an email!
