We’re Moving!

Amsterdam, Expat Life / Monday, February 14th, 2022

Well, today is the day that I let the cat out of the bag. We’re moving! After keeping it a secret for many months, it feels good to finally share such a massive change in our lives. They say moving is one of the most stressful events in a person’s life. I was reading a recent 2020 survey that reported 45% of respondents claimed moving to be by far the most stressful event in a person’s life, followed by a breakup, and then marriage. While there have been some stressful moments during this process so far, we are so excited for this opportunity! Keep reading to find out where we’re moving to!

Remember our little trip to Amsterdam in December? We spent a couple weeks there enjoying the city in all its festive holiday glory but also because WE’RE MOVING TO AMSTERDAM! Wow, just seeing that in print now seems so surreal, but it’s true! We’re moving to Amsterdam and we are so excited!

At the time of me writing this post it is February 1st and we’ve just had some furniture delivered to our new apartment. Our wonderful Amsterdam friends assisted with the delivery and sent some photos and videos that I have to admit, I squealed over a bit. Even though we will have to wait a few months for our own belongings to arrive, it feels amazing to have a livable space right now. We used Re-Place, a Dutch furniture rental company that was recommended to us, and they made the process easy. I love the little touches they left like fresh flowers and a handwritten note. They were on time, delivered everything, and were quick and efficient.

It’s hard to believe that we are staying in our own apartment! It’s starting to feel like home already. The only thing missing right now are our girls, but they will be coming over later. Amsterdam is a very dog-friendly city, and I can’t wait to introduce our girls to places like Vondelpark

We are currently in Amsterdam for a couple of weeks to take care of some important appointments. Paul is also working while we are here (his job is the reason for the move). While he spends time at the office, I have loved exploring our new neighborhood and seeing Amsterdam by foot. Soon it’ll be by bike! I can’t remember the last time I rode one of those. Ha ha! Once we finish up here, it’s back to the states to sell our home and finish the moving process.

Moving to a foreign country requires a lot of planning. Covid has added an extra layer of stress, but we are managing as best we can. I’ll be taking you along as we transition from the U.S. and navigate being expats. If you follow me on Instagram, you will see even more behind-the-scenes stories. The blog will take a slight turn in that you’ll see more posts about expat life and Amsterdam. But I’m also excited to bring back more European travel content. Thank you so much for continuing to read my little place on the Internet. I hope you enjoy what’s to come!

    1. Thank you so much, Kim! It’s a bit of a hybrid move, I guess. I believe the minimum stay will be 3 years. But I think there’s some wiggle room in there in either direction. Paul is doing the same thing he did in the states for the same company, just doing it in Europe now. It’s always been somewhat of a dream to do this, so we are excited! xo – Erin
