This past weekend we attended the 2017 San Antonio Parade of Homes, a Greater San Antonio Builders Association event to see state-of-the-art new home trends in 8 luxury model homes. This year’s event was held in The Canyons at Scenic Loop. Having built a custom home recently, I still enjoy seeing new finishes, advanced home technology, and design ideas. We would definitely go through the custom home building process again, so I’ve been keeping a design book for when that time comes.

Each of the 8 models had things we liked and didn’t like, but overall it was a pretty fun tour. I took pictures of everything that I felt was swoon-worthy. It was pretty crowded and a little difficult to capture photos without people, but I could look at these beautiful kitchens, baths, fixtures, and floor tiles all day.

Outdoor areas

I really like the idea of a seating area built into the pool area surrounding a fire pit. That infinity edge runs over the side of a large tiled wall making a unique water feature as you enter the courtyard area.

I would be lounging under this pergola all the time (except for when I’d be in the pool). Look at that sweeping view! I also like the pavers leading down into the yard.

Again, another amazing view, but I like the long rectangular shape of the pool with the water feature. The outdoor kitchen is to the left under a covered patio.

This is such a cozy space. This area is right off the home’s study and includes a firepit. We can pretty much enjoy outdoor living year round in central Texas. What a great place to get some work done, have a glass of wine, meditate, you name it. I also really like the pavers again with the rock between.

Kitchens

This vent hood is stunning. I really liked the colors of this kitchen – a lot of cool grays, blacks, and copper accents. The backsplash tile may be a little dark for me, but I like the elongated hexagonal shape.

Where do I begin on this kitchen? The dark floors against all that light and bright cabinetry are so beautiful. I like the oversized island, but I probably wouldn’t put so much storage under the front for efficiency sake, but it does look pretty all lit up. The lucite and hide bar stools are some of my favorite furniture pieces of the day. I also love the brass sconces above the sink and large hanging lights over the island. This kitchen had a ton of storage as well as a butler’s pantry right behind it.

This kitchen had a great open floor plan into the casual living area and a huge island with a beautiful waterfall granite edge. A separate fridge and freezer was unique and I love all the glass doors leading to the outdoor covered patio.

I do love the look of the granite having a waterfall edge, but worry that it may look dated in time. Anyone else feel this way? The farmhouse sink is one of my favorite parts of any kitchen (we actually chose a stainless steel version for our custom home) and I really liked these light fixtures above the island.

Bars and Entertaining

This little wet bar area is perfect for entertaining. I love the floating wood shelves against the stacked stone wall. My only problem is that I would need a much larger wine fridge.

Mercury glass beveled edge subway tiles – yes please! This little bar area of the butler’s pantry had enough sparkle to remind you of the bubbles in a glass of champagne.

This wine room was located at the back of a dining room and accessible through glass doors. The dining room didn’t need any additional art or decoration because your eye was immediately drawn to the beautiful wine racks lit within the wine room.

Closet

I’m a little bummed about the lack of closet pictures I was able to get, but there were so many people in the closets that it would have been difficult to see the details. I did get this one, and aside from the strange looking lounger they staged it with, I like all the built-ins and how bright it was. Many of the master closets included a stackable washer and dryer (in addition to the laundry room) which I would definitely install in my next house. Also, can closets ever really be too big?

Furnishings and Decor

I was happy to see that this master suite had a central wooden beam on the ceiling, a detail that we also have in our own master. I love this chandelier so much, but being in Texas I just can’t sacrifice my ceiling fan. I need circulated air when I sleep. But this one is gorgeous! Don’t you want to just crawl in that bed and take a nap?

Love the light fixtures in this kitchen and the coffered ceiling. That little horse was pretty cute, too. I have a weak spot for equestrian pieces.

That chandelier might be bit much for me, but it worked this dining room! At the back is the wine room I mentioned above. Interestingly, this dining room had lightly textured walls that were painted a matte black. Sounds too dark but it really worked. With all the white trim and light colors surrounding this room, it really popped.

This wooden wall has amazing texture and adds color and dimension to this game room. Definitely a more masculine feeling room (except for that pineapple pillow?).

This office was the perfect mix of modern and rustic. I like the shelves but would need about ten times more space than that for all of my books. In our home office we went with a builtin library across an entire wall. I do love how they layered the skin rugs and placed the desk in the center of the room. There was plenty of space to get creative working on a project.

This impressive fireplace was located in the entryway and can be seen through the main front door’s large glass. I like that it’s both a statement in design but also functions as a separating wall between the main entry and the great room. The fireplace is also double-sided, which I like. Also, that herringbone tiled floor is amazing, right?

Bathrooms

I’ve saved the best for last – bathrooms! I was so pleased to see so many free-standing tubs. When we built our custom home we opted for a classic clawfoot tub that is the centerpiece of the whole bathroom. I really liked this wall that separates the walk-in shower from the tub area. Our shower also does not have doors and I like the openness of this design.

I thought this powder room’s vanity design was interesting, with floating cabinetry, hexagonal dark floor tile, and the rope accent mirror.

This bathroom was one of my favorites. I really like all the black and white tile. The whole room felt like a modernized art deco bathroom from the 1920’s. I’m not sure I can sell my husband on it, but I may do a variation of this design in my next laundry room. This picture shows one half of the vanity as it splits the room. The second vanity is on the back side. The tile work is also beautiful.

What I like about this freestanding tub is the contrast of the white inside with the black outside. The faucet also ties in nicely and I like the geometrical light fixture above. The windows have electric shades that come down at the push of the button, giving you all the privacy you need.

The best part of a powder room is being able to funk it up! I love that this builder went with a vintage sink. The brass accents combined with that floor are just gorgeous. Although you lose a little storage space when installing this kind of sink, you make up for it with wow factor.

Who doesn’t want a home spa? This picture does not do this tub area justice. Just outside the glass wall is an outdoor seating area and water feature. With the builtin coffee bar just to the right of the tub, you could take your coffee to the tub terrace (as I’m referring to it) and then enjoy a long soak in your freestanding stub. It doesn’t get more zen than this.

Another fun bathroom vanity with interesting backsplash and floor tile. I am really loving floor tile that comes together to form a geometrical pattern. I also like the glass front cabinets to display fluffy guest towels and soaps. Something else I like is having the faucet in the wall to free up countertop space, especially in a small bathroom or powder room.

Can you tell I love bathtubs? This tub area is so peaceful and full of dimension and texture. I love the herringbone tile against the dark walls and dark tub. The wall tile surrounding the window and the chandelier are just so elegant.

This is a photo of that same tub above. You can really appreciate the herringbone tile here and the large furniture piece that is one of the vanities. This bathroom is a perfect combination of dark and moody with light and airy because of that gorgeous window.

This bathtub was in one of the guest bathrooms. I really like how the builder created a low tiled shelf. It looks so beautiful styled with some candles but is also really functional as a place to easily reach soap (or your wine) while taking a soak.
