Happy Friday! Are you up early taking advantage of Black Friday sales? I can honestly say I have never done that. I think I just love the comfort of my bed a little too much. I do like to take advantage of all the online shopping I can, though. You just can’t beat lounging in your pajamas, sipping coffee, and shopping from the comfort of your own home.

I probably do the majority of my shopping online simply because I’m too busy to make a trip to the store and I like the ability to order at any time day or night. I’m a serial late night shopper. Amazon gets most of our retail business, but I hadn’t yet purchased clothing from them.

My first purchase from Amazon Fashion was this blue cold shoulder tunic dress. I’m really pleased with it, especially at under $20. Ordering it was a bit of an experiment and I wasn’t sure what to expect with regards to quality. This dress is incredibly soft and the color is a beautiful deep blue (I went for color this time instead of my usual boring black). It’s really comfortable and would look great with leggings or with booties, so it makes a great transition piece from fall to winter. I paired it with knee high leather riding boots and a lightweight scarf. And you know me, I love a dress with pockets. I will likely order another one in a different color. I’m wearing the Navy Blue option and it comes in 8 additional colors in long sleeve. There’s a short sleeve version as well.

5 Tips for Shopping Amazon Fashion

Top Brands and others

Amazon has a pretty good variety of what it calls Top Brands. Brands like Calvin Klein, bebe, Lilly Pulitzer, and Nine West among others. If you don’t shop the Top Brands, you’ll find a variety of other items with names you don’t necessarily recognize but that can be more wallet-friendly.

Prime doesn’t always mean 2-day shipping

Make sure to read all the product description information. I found that some items are listed as Prime, so I would normally assume the usual free 2-day shipping. However, some items stated that shipping time will be 5-7 days regardless, because of where the item is shipping from (China, for example).

Same brands, different sellers

I also purchased a pair of leggings made by Leggings Depot, but noticed a few other sellers claiming to have Leggings Depot leggings. After reading all the product description information, I realized who was selling the authentic version. When my leggings arrived, they were packaged well and tagged with Leggings Depot tags and logos.

Don’t ignore the sizing chart

Many of the retailers provide a sizing chart, and this can really vary. Before ordering your “usual” size, check the sizing chart for the item first. When in doubt, order two sizes because the second size can usually be returned easily.

Read at least 5-10 reviews

As with anything you purchase online, read the reviews if they’re available. After all, you’re purchasing something sight unseen. What I love about Amazon reviews is that some customers will upload a photo of the item they received, often times of them wearing it. This is hugely helpful when it comes to clothing. I always read the reviews that are only 1 star, if available. Sometimes the issue isn’t with the item itself. Reading 5-10 reviews will give you a better overall idea of what to expect.
