Let’s talk hats for a bit. Hat styles range widely, and I’m honestly not one to wear them that often. Other than the occasional baseball cap, the only other hat style I’m in is a straw hat by the pool. There was that one time as a kid that I wore a white straw hat with a pink ribbon for Easter (SO glad there isn’t photographic evidence of that). And then there was two summers ago when the heatwave scorching Athens required me to make a hasty gift shop hat purchase. It was a good Panama style and it protected my head, but it wasn’t the greatest quality.
Fast forward to now and that souvenir hat turned out to be a style I actually like. I retired it for a newer and better constructed version a couple weeks ago. It amazes me that the origins of the Panama hat date back a few hundred years and the style is still kicking it. They’re a good choice for both men and women, and pretty versatile when it comes to sprucing up your Spring or Summer outfit.
I found this affordable downbrim Panama style hat while out running errands and I loved how it looked with a few dresses I was trying on. As you know, our next overseas trip is to Croatia this summer. We are spending a few days on a sailboat island-hopping our way from Split to Dubrovnik (I know, what is this life?!), so I thought this hat would be perfect.
I’m wearing it here with this A. Calin by Flying Tomato striped halter dress I purchased from one of my favorite local boutiques, Urban Provisions (also where I got these amazing flare jeans). This dress is definitely going to Croatia with me. I think it can pull double duty between being a day dress with flat sandals to an evening out with heels or wedges. The handloom clutch with beaded tassel is also going in my bag. When we travel, I prefer a smaller flat clutch in the evenings because I usually don’t bring my large Nikon camera with me then.
Other things I’ll be wearing this hat with include this t-shirt maxi dress and this pom pom swimsuit coverup I shared on Instagram stories. I have a few other rompers and shorts and tees that I know it’ll work with too. I’ll be doing a post with everything I’m packing for Croatia as we get closer to that trip. What are some hat styles that are musts for you?
