Hello, friends! How was your weekend? As usual, I’m sitting here wondering where the time goes between Friday and today. I swear the clocks plot against me on weekends, and with losing an hour due to daylight savings time, it really felt like a blur.
But at least it was a really fun blur. We celebrated Bella’s 11th birthday! We just love that little furball more than life itself. I picked up the same pink strawberry cake as last year and we all sang happy birthday and blew out the candles together. It was so sweet! We enjoyed having my husband’s parents in town to share in that, too. We gave them tickets to The Sound of Music for Christmas so Friday night we spent the evening at The Majestic Theatre. The show was very well done! My husband was the only one who hadn’t seen the movie before – I know, what is that about?! We were all looking forward to seeing the musical live, especially my in-laws because it’s one of their favorites. I had a chill down my arm when the German officer shines a light into the audience searching for the Von Trapp family hiding in the abbey. You could have heard a pin drop in the audience.
Before the show we had an incredible meal at Battalion and a pre-show glass of bubbly at Bohanan’s (congratulations to both for making the Top 10 Restaurants list by the San Antonio Express News this week)! I had to post my Aperol spritz to Instagram stories because I thought it was the best I’ve had since being on the Aperol Terrazza in Milan.
As usual, eventful weekends like these have me standing in my closet hoping to hear, “Pick me, pick me!” from my racks of clothes so that I don’t actually have to figure out my outfit. Not that I don’t enjoy getting dressed, but it’s especially hard when the weather is as unpredictable as it has been here. Earlier in the week it was 28 degrees but Friday it got up to the 80’s. Ugh, welcome to Texas.
I don’t like handling a sweater or jacket all evening so I needed to get a little creative. Enter the basic black jumpsuit. Why do I love it? It’s as simple as having your top and bottom picked out all at once. Boom – instant outfit. This Vince Camuto wide leg jumpsuit is my favorite, and I’m so happy it’s back this season. But the sleeveless style of my jumpsuit presented a challenge. I could layer a jacket over the jumpsuit, or I could experiment with layering under it instead. Hmmm…I was onto something.
A silky printed blouse was the key. It gave me the coverage I needed to be comfortable despite mother nature or a potentially cold theater. I also instantly loved the 70’s vibe it gave off. As you all know, that decade’s clothing (like these bell bottoms I posted about recently) are kind of my jam. A plain white button front shirt or turtleneck would have been a good choice, too. My blouse is from a few seasons ago, but I still love it for the small bow print and simple black and white color scheme. I think there are other tops that could work too, like this printed leopard or floral blouse, as long as the print isn’t too large.
What do you think of this trend? Have you tried it? What are some other ways you could creatively layer your basic jumpsuit? I want to keep experimenting with it!
Outfit details: Vince Camuto jumpsuit // Blouse – a couple years old but I love this one and this one // Clutch is from a local boutique, but this one on Amazon is pretty similar (and under $26) // Platform heels – similar here
