Aperol Bag Charm Crochet Pattern

Crochet, Fashion, Free Crochet Patterns / Wednesday, June 4th, 2025

I am seeing crochet bag charms everywhere right now, so of course I had to try my hand at making some. I love how they add so much personality to a bag and they’re a great way to express yourself. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen a few that I’ve already made – sardine, caviar tin, and croissant + takeaway coffee among others. I made the caviar tin myself without a pattern and I wanted to try it again with one of my favorite drinks of summer, the Aperol Spritz! It just tastes like summer in a glass, doesn’t it? Keep reading for the free pattern I designed for an Aperol Crochet Bag Charm (plus a free orange wedge pattern)!

Aperol Crochet Bag Charm | Designed by Cathedrals & Cafes

My Aperol Crochet Bag Charm is an intermediate level crochet pattern. The stitches are quite simple, however, and you just need a few materials. I like to attach a keychain with lobster clasp like this assortment to my crochet bag charms but you don’t have to. A simple chain with a slip stitch to form a loop also works well.

As I mentioned above, the Aperol Crochet Bag Charm Pattern comes with a bonus crochet pattern for a little orange wedge that makes a cute little companion to the bottle. šŸ™‚

Design & Styling Inspiration

Summer means a spritz in the sun! The classic Aperol Spritz is my favorite summer cocktail so I wanted to create a cute bag charm to express my love for them. It’s the perfect accessory for any summer bag. Included in the pattern is a cute little orange wedge, too! I hope you love them as much as I do!

Bottle Pattern

In Orange Yarn:

Round 1: Make a magic circle, CH 2 and then place 10 DC into the centre of the circle. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 2.(10)

You’re going to ignore the chain 2 and not count as a stitch, this helps prevent your joins from having any gaps. I find it very helpful to mark the first stitch of every round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: CH 2 and place 2 DC in every stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 2.(20)

Round 3: CH 2 and then place *1 DC in the next stitch and 2 DC in the next stitch ** repeat from *to** until you have 30 stitches. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 2. (30)

Round 4: CH 1 and then place 1 SCBLO in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (30 scblo)

Round 5: CH 1 and then place 1 SC (through both loops now and in the subsequent rounds until noted otherwise) in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (30)

Round 6 – 11: repeat Round 5.

Round 12: CH 1 and then place 1 SC in next 11 stitches. Switch to white yarn and place 1 SC in next 7 stitches, carrying the orange yarn along the back. Switch back to orange yarn and place 1 SC in next 12 stitches, carrying the white yarn along the back. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (30)

Round 13: CH 1 and then place 1 SC in next 11 stitches, continuing to carry white yarn along the back. Switch to white yarn and then place 1 SC in next 7 stitches, carrying orange yarn along the back. Switch to orange yarn and then place 1 SC in next 12 stitches, carrying the white yarn along the back. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (30)

Round 14 – 16: Repeat Row 13. Drop white yarn at end of round 16. Cut white yarn leaving a length of a few inches to tie it off. Take the orange yarn tail from the magic circle and tie it together with the white yarn tail making a double knot. As you tie them together, pull the orange yarn tail tighter to bring the bottom of the bottle up into the bottle. This way the bottom of the bottle will look like the bottom of a liquor bottle. See photo below.

You will continue with orange yarn only in next rounds until otherwise noted.

Round 17: CH 1 and then place 1 SC in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (30)

Round 18 – 23: Repeat Round 17.

Round 24: CH 1 and then place 1 SCBLO in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (30 scblo)

Round 25: (decrease row) CH 1 and then place (1 SC, 1 DEC)* repeat from * around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (20)

Round 26: CH 1 and then place 1 SC in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (20)

Round 27: Repeat Round 26. (20)

***Start stuffing your bottle at this point. Place enough stuffing to fill it taught, leaving room to continue working remaining rounds.***

Round 28: (decrease row) CH 1 and then place (1 SC, 1 DEC)* repeat from * around to last two stitches. Place 1 SC in last two stitches. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (14)

Round 29: (decrease row) CH 1 and then place (1 SC, 1 DEC)* repeat from * around to last two stitches. Place 1 SC in last two stitches. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (10)

Round 30- 32: CH 1 and then place 1 SC in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (10)

***Switch to blue yarn. You can cut the orange yarn and stuff it into the bottle.***

Round 33-36: CH 1 and then place 1 SC in each stitch around. Join with a SL ST to the top of the CH 1. (10)

Finish stuffing the bottle (it is helpful to use the non-hook end of your hook for this) and sew up the top. Fasten off. Leave a long tail if you plan on attaching a key ring. Otherwise weave in your loose end.

Blue ā€œAperolā€ Label Pattern

In blue yarn:

Row 1: CH 14 and place 1 SC in second CH from hook and into each CH to end of row. CH 1 and turn. (13)

Row 2: Place 1 SC in each stitch across row. CH 1 and turn. (13)

Row 3-4: Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing onto the bottle.

Using yellow embroidery thread, stitch the word ā€œAperolā€ onto the blue label as shown in the photo.

Next, using the long tail of the Aperol label, stitch the Aperol label onto the bottle at a slight angle as shown in the photo. To attach, simply sew a few stitches around the edges of the blue label. Fasten off and weave in your ends. Enjoy your new Aperol Bag Charm!

BONUS Orange Wedge Pattern

Materials

1 skein light orange yarn (DK or sport weight) 1 skein dark orange yarn (DK or sport weight) 1 skein white yarn (DK or sport weight)

1.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers
Poly-fil or other stuffing (I like to use old fabric or yarn scraps)

Notes

This pattern is made in joined rounds. The beginning chain counts as a stitch.

Pattern

Round 1: In light orange yarn, make a magic circle and CH 2 (counts as your first stitch). Make 11 DC into magic circle and SL ST to the top of the CH 2. (12)

Round 2: CH 2 and DC into same stitch. (DC INC) x 11. SL ST into the top of the CH 2. (24)

Round 3: CH 2 and DC into same stitch. Make DC INC in each stitch around. SL ST into the top of the CH 2. (48)

Round 4: Change to white yarn and CH 1. Make 1 SC in stitch around. SL ST into the top of the CH 1. (48)

Change to dark orange yarn and CH 1. Place a stitch marker into the CH 1. Fasten off both the white and light orange yarns. You will stuff the tails into the fruit when we close it up.

For the seed details, cut a length of white yarn approximately 12 inches. Using your yarn needle sew six lengths of yarn and six seeds evenly around circle, so that once folded in half you will have 3 lengths and 3 seeds on each side. Fasten off and secure yarn on wrong side.

Round 5: Fold your fruit slice in half to create the wedge shape. Remove stitch marker and, going through both sides with your hook, SC around the curved edge. Stuff your yarn tails into the inside of the fruit. You can also add a little poly-fil or yarn scraps to give it a little bit of a puffed feel.

Once you’ve crocheted around the curved edge, chain 45-50. Bring your hook back to the first chain and SL ST into it to create a loop that will attach your fruit wedge to a key ring or bag.

Enjoy your new Orange Wedge Crochet Bag Charm! Note: Yarn colors can be switched up to create lemons, limes, watermelons etc. Have fun and get creative with it!
