Moving to Amsterdam has made me much more of a “Fall person.” Not that I disliked the Fall season before but I’ve never had the chance to live somewhere where you can truly experience leaves changing color, temperatures dropping, and the actual need for a jacket in October. I am loving the Fall season here in Amsterdam. It’s just the coziest! Every walk with Lola feels like I’m in When Harry Met Sally or You’ve Got Mail. I’ll look for almost any excuse to go for a walk just to take in the sight of orange and red leaves dotting the sidewalk and breathe in the intoxicating aroma of each cafe I pass (does anyone else think that coffee just smells better this time of year?). Armed with my new-found appreciation for the whole Nora Ephron movie aesthetic, I decided to design a crochet bag to take with me on all my Fall-themed adventures. Thus, the Bailey Bucket Bag came to be!

The Bailey Bucket Bag is a free crochet pattern that you can download below. It uses just a few skeins of Scheepjes Organicon yarn, a Dutch brand I discovered when I connected with Janneke from @wol.van.janneke on Instagram! I have since fallen in love with the quality and color range of this yarn! For this bag I combined the colors Maple Bark and Night Shadow. Individually they are stunning but together these colors bring out a richness that reminds me of an early autumn evening. 

For the body of the bag, I used two strands together to give it more structure and I incorporated a Tunisian stitch for a sturdier strap. The drawstring is a simple i-cord. I would consider this an advanced beginner level pattern, but an ambitious beginner shouldn’t have any trouble. Scheepjes has 70 beautiful colors of Organicon available, so you can make this bag in any color combo you wish. Organicon is also 100% soft organic cotton produced according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) – the highest achievable sustainability index for textile production in the world.
