Colorful Crochet Cardigan + Update on My Riviera Collection

Crochet, Fashion / Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023

Hello Spring, is that you? We’ve had an unseasonably chilly April in Amsterdam. It was reported that it’s the first time The Netherlands hasn’t had an official warm day before the month of May in over twenty-five years! We are still wearing our winter coats, but over the weekend we saw a glimpse of spring and with it the hope that summer is right behind it. I am so ready! But these brisk spring temps mean that I get to wear things like this colorful crochet cardigan (an absurd thought this time of year in Texas)! And on the day I shot these photos I was actually able to wear shorts! You may have seen my reel featuring this cardigan but I wanted to share more details about it here plus give you an update on my Riviera Collection launching this month.

The last time I was in the states I purchased some Mandala yarn from Lion Brand. Are you familiar with these colorful cakes? I hadn’t crocheted anything with them but the colors and ombré effect they give to a garment had me super intrigued. I knew I probably wanted to do some sort of wearable piece but not a scarf. When I saw the Endless Eyelets Long Cardigan designed by Jessica Potasz of Mama In A Stitch, I knew it was the perfect project.

One of the best things about crocheting a cardigan is that you get to decide on body and sleeve length. You can go as long as a duster or crochet a little cropped cardi. Long, elbow length, or even short sleeves are a customizable option. I followed the pattern exactly with the exception of shortening the overall length just a bit.

To crochet this cardigan, I ended up combining two different colors of Mandala yarn. I used a mixture of Warlock and Centaur and found that the colors went really well together. The granny stitch throughout is super easy, yet there’s much less seaming as you make the cardigan in large panels rather than little squares. Love that!

TIP: When using more than one cake of Mandala, you may have colors that are all over the place throughout your garment. If you prefer more color symmetry in the sleeves and front panels like I did, then you will have to cut your yarn and reattach where the colors make sense. It’s not difficult and actually gives you a lot of versatility with this yarn.
