DIY Snowy Ornament Treat Jars

DIY, Lifestyle / Tuesday, December 5th, 2017

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Now that December is here, I am in full-on Christmas mode! In addition to decorating, shopping, and wrapping gifts, I always like to find the time to create something. Homemade gifts that are simple yet thoughtful can really brighten someone’s day. I love crafting but don’t always have the time. But I found a way to make something that is super easy and can be done in under 5 minutes.

Today’s post is a simple DIY project that makes a fun and sweet gift or party favor. These snowy ornament treat jars would be perfect for classmates, teachers, neighbors, friends, colleagues, clients or anyone on your list that could use a little holiday cheer. You don’t need any special tools and the best part is that everything can be found at your local dollar store. I found everything I needed at Dollar Tree, which made each treat jar less than $4.

Supply list:

  • Mason jar ($1)
  • Shredded paper filler ($1) – one package fills about 6 jars
  • Jingle bell ornament ($1)
  • Hershey’s Kisses

How to make a DIY snowy ornament treat jar:

  • Fill mason jar with shredded paper filler until jar is half full
  • Place Hershey’s Kisses into jar until full
  • Lay ornament loop into jar and place jar top over it to secure. Screw on the jar lid to fully secure.
  • Ta-da! Sit back and enjoy the treat jar that took you a whole minute to create.

I chose Hershey’s Kisses because they’re one of my favorite chocolate candies. You could go with the red and green ones that come out during the season, but I went with traditional silver foil because I loved the way the silver color worked with the white “snow.” The bronze/gold top of the mason jars help to give it that farmhouse traditional look.

You could make these treat jars ahead of time and give as party favors, or invite your friends over to make them together. Have a selection of candy that guests can choose from and even offer different ornament toppers. They would make a great kids craft, too. When the treats are all gone, just reuse the jar and hang your ornament.
