It’s that time of year where I start to plan my pre-fall wardrobe (I say pre-fall because there’s no way I’m getting anywhere close to putting on a sweater when Mother Nature still firmly believes it’s summer). Now that August is over, I created a little wish list of things I’d like to build into my existing items.
With a fall trip to Napa now booked, I’ve got to start getting serious about what I’m going to wear. The weather in northern California is going to be much different in November than in Texas. And I’m always conscientious of proper attire when visiting a winery.
So far I’ve invested in a few simple things that at least give me a little closet refresh and make me feel like I’m transitioning to fall. I found the perfectly distressed denim jacket, which will help my summer dresses live a bit longer. I looked everywhere for one that I felt had just the right amount of distressing, was made from a nice quality denim, and didn’t break the bank. I also wanted it to be pretty fitted, which this one is. Normally I wear a small but this time I ordered a medium because it’s actually a pretty fitted denim jacket. I think layering it over a floral maxi would make a great wine country look.
The next pre-fall item I’ve purchased are these snakeskin ankle boots. I’ve been eyeing the snakeskin trend and really love it. This pair was on sale for a great deal over Labor Day and I can’t wait to wear them with some straight leg jeans, probably cuffed at the bottom. I’m treating snakeskin like a neutral, wearing it just like I would leopard print. The heel is a comfortable height for a travel shoe, too.
Finally, and this is pretty much a year round item, I found a great vintage Queen t-shirt that is going to be an easy basic with jeans and probably that denim jacket I bought. Ok, it’s not technically vintage because the shirt is brand new, but the Queen artwork is. I’ve gravitated towards band tees at various points in my life so I love that they are also trending right now.
Here’s the rest of my pre-fall wish list edit:
I’ve said that I dislike the fanny pack, but when the fashion gods called it a belt bag and made it look this chic, I was kind of like, yeah ok I’m with you. And I do love being hands free, especially when I travel. The little round leather belt bag is my favorite.
Shop Belt Bags:
I’ll always be a fan of flared leg denim. I have a 70’s girl trapped in my body dying to get out. I also keep jeans forever so even if they go out of style, I know they’ll come back around. Things always do.
Shop Flared Denim:
I might have gone down a serious rabbit hole shopping for snakeskin boots. There are just too many great styles to choose from, and it allows you to try a trend in a less obvious way. I’m also still happy that ankle boots are fashionable.
Shop Snakeskin Boots:
The denim jacket is probably the pre-fall item I’m most excited to wear. I always go for denim that has just a little distressing, too. The darker wash above is a total steal!
Shop Denim Jackets:
I start to feel really old when bands from the 90’s are considered classic rock. But I guess that’s how my parents feel when I think it’s cool to wear a Queen t-shirt. Nevertheless, these vintage style tees will always be effortlessly stylish to me.
Shop Vintage Band Tees:
This is something I wish I would have just purchased last year. There are so many times where I just want to wear a camisole, jeans, and heels and a long black blazer is the perfect finishing piece.
Shop Black Jackets:
A basic flat loafer is a must for me. I’m just thinking of all the cozy sweaters I could wear with any one of these pairs and the right jeans. Someday…some…day. #TexasProblems
Shop Loafers:
I’ve never been much of a fan of hats (unless you count the occasional baseball cap) but lately I’ve been drawn to them. I think it’s the styles right now – all the wide brim fedoras and western inspired looks. I also really enjoyed wearing a straw panama hat this summer. Any one of these in a rich earth tone would be great for a fall trip.
