Beauty Review: Good Hair Days with R+Co

Beauty / Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019

Whenever I discover new beauty products that actually do what they promise, I want to share them with you. Good hair days shouldn’t be kept secret, you know?

The kind team over at R+Co sent me some of their best haircare products to take for a spin, so I have been driving around with R+Co hair for a couple of weeks now (ha, see what I did there?).

While R+Co has been on the market for a few years now, it was definitely new to me. I love experimenting with new skin and hair care products, partly because I’m on a quest to find the end-all-be-all solutions to my getting ready frustrations and also because it’s just fun to play with new formulations.

The R+Co products I’m reviewing today are Twister Curl Primer, High Dive Moisture + Shine Creme, Spiritualized Dry Shampoo Mist, and Aircraft Pomade Mousse. Long story short, I loved all but one. Read on to find out which R+Co products are my favorites and which one just isn’t for me. As always, all opinions are my own.

Overall First Impressions

I initially introduced you all to R+Co on my Instagram stories, and the first impression I had was how much I loved the packaging. Not only is it colorful and graphic driven, it’s intentional. Each label is designed to show you what the product is intended to do, so you’ll know what to expect just by looking at the products. For example, the Twister Curl Primer has brightly colored twisting roller coaster rails on the packaging.

Another thing I loved immediately was the brand’s approach to their formulations. R+Co products are formulated without parabens, sulfates (SLS or SLES), mineral oil and petrolatum. They are all vegetarian, cruelty-free, gluten-free and color-safe. I’m not 100% using all clean beauty products, but I’m making more of an effort.

R+Co Twister Curl Primer

This was one of the first R+Co products I tried, along with the Aircraft Pomade Mousse. I used these two products to create loose curls in this IGTV tutorial. The Twister Curl Primer really helped set my curls and it made them last all day. I usually need to touch up any curl job before going out for an evening event, but I didn’t need to with Twister. I really like this product and use it every time I curl my hair now.

Make sure to apply to damp hair and really comb through. I have long hair so I started about halfway down the hair shaft and worked it towards the ends. Then just blow-dry and curl. As with all the R+Co products I tried, a little goes a long way. I used less than a dime sized amount.

R+Co Aircraft Pomade Mousse

I’m going to go ahead and address this one, since I used it in conjunction with the Twister mentioned above. To be completely honest, I didn’t love it. I applied it at the root like I’ve done with similar products, hoping to get some good lift. I did get some good body from it, but I didn’t like the texture of my hair. It felt a little sticky and just too stiff. Perhaps I’m doing it wrong, but I’m just not a fan of this one. Maybe for an up-do it would be better?

R+Co High Dive Moisture + Shine Creme

I love this one! It leaves my hair really silky, especially if I’m blowing it out and doing a straight middle part. It smells nice, too. I apply it a few times a week to damp hair and then blow-dry with a round bristle brush. If you have any issues with frizz at all, High Dive will take care of it. The label says it can also be used as a leave in conditioner. I tried that but it felt a little too heavy for me. I just use a small amount and work my way from roots to ends.

R+Co Spiritualized Dry Shampoo Mist

Ok, this one is my absolute FAVORITE of all the R+Co products I tried. There seem to be thousands of dry shampoos on the market and believe me, I’m game to try them all. I had yet to find one that I loved as much as the one from Virtue (which I still really do love) until I tried this one.

My hair actually feels cleansed after using Spiritualized, instead of feeling like I’ve just covered up any oily spots. There’s zero residue and if I didn’t know better, I would think I’m just spraying plain old water on my hair. It’s light and smells wonderful, too. If there’s only ONE product you want to try from this post, I would make it R+Co Spiritualized Dry Shampoo Mist.

Be sure to shake it well before using. The only downside I could find is that it’s just slightly too big to be a TSA approved size, so I’ll have to pour some into a smaller bottle. But it’ll be worth it!
