The Travel Playlist

There are so many things we have to do when preparing to take a trip – planning outfits, packing efficiently, arranging pet care…the list goes on and on. I try not to let it overwhelm me because I know that all the planning just means a more pleasurable and relaxing experience while we’re gone. Among these must-dos for us includes creating a travel playlist. Although there are times when you want to bask in the quiet calm of your locale, there are many times while traveling that you either want to drown out your surroundings or simply add to your ambience. I am always thankful for music while riding a train or flying, and we enjoy a little music while cooking and lounging on a patio. I recently saw that Google and TripAdvisor are joining forces to provide travel playlists this summer. I think it’s a great idea and makes complete sense, but I also realized, hey…we’ve been doing this on our own for quite some time!

If you don’t have the time to curate your own list of tunes, then consider all the available options out there from iTunes, Pandora, Spotify and others. We actually alternate between Pandora and Apple Music. With subscriptions to both platforms, we feel like we have the best combination of artist variety and functionality. I love all the pre-made playlists and stations. but I especially love the ability to add songs to my own playlist in Apple Music. The ability to create a playlist “on demand” is pretty neat. I love Pandora’s new summer stations but an old favorite is Yacht Rock. If you’re a fan of light 70’s-80’s rock like us, then this station is for you. Did you know they have a playlist called Italian Cooking Music Radio? Seriously! It exists! And it truly is the perfect station while preparing your next antipasto plate.

Here’s a sample playlist of some songs from our collection. As you can see, we have a WIDE range of music we enjoy. I think this list (although not all-inclusive at all) pretty much sums up our taste in music. We love a mix of pop and classic rock.
