Like just about every other woman on the planet, I’ve tried a lot of skincare products. I mean, A…LOT! My routine has morphed from my teenage years of treating breakouts (although let’s not kid ourselves, that’s still an issue sometimes) to maintaining a youthful appearance (*ahem* not that someone who is perpetually 25 needs to worry, right?). So I thought I’d share my top 10 skincare products from drug to department store that are in my current rotation. These are the usual suspects, peeps. These are the skincare products that are working for me, and surprisingly, they don’t all cost a small fortune.
Top 10 Skincare Products From Drug to Department Store
(in no particular order)
Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer
Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light
IPKN Check Edition Rose Water Soothing Gel
Olay Regenerist Sculpting Face Cream
CeraVe Eye Repair Cream for Dark Circles
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel
Now that you have the full list, let’s break it down:
Start with a clean face
I always, always, always remember to wash my face before bed. I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel followed by Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner. I’m more conscious than ever to keep my skin’s natural hydration locked in, which the hyaluronic acid and alcohol free content of these two products takes care of beautifully. Plus my skin just feels really clean and fresh afterward.
Why I love it: dermatologist recommended brand, fragrance free, gently removes makeup
Drugstore brands that really work
Olay Regenerist Sculpting Face Cream is so much less expensive than other “designer” brands and I find that it works. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and have noticed a small difference in certain areas around my eyes and forehead. It’s such a smooth cream, too. I use it primarily at night and really look forward to lathering it on. I also put a small amount on the backs of my hands, too, to help reverse any aging due to sun damage there.
Why I love it: a little goes a long way, it’s inexpensive, feels great, works under makeup
CeraVe Eye Repair Cream for Dark Circles is another drugstore brand favorite. I use this on days where I’m giving my skin a break and not applying makeup. I’ll apply it day and night and especially on days where I’m running on little sleep. For something so inexpensive it really helps brighten the eye area.
Why I love it: only takes a small amount to work, it’s inexpensive, great size for travel
My 3-step favorite
I have always loved Origins because of the quality of their products but also because I appreciate their commitment to the planet and the fact that they are against animal testing. Bella gives Origins two paws up! In the morning I’ll apply Origins GinZing Eye Cream, which really helps with puffiness. I get a small dab on my ring finger and apply all around the eye area and lid.
Why I love it: absorbs quickly, really works to de-puff
I follow that with Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer. This stuff smells amazing. It has a light citrus scent that also gives me a bit of a wake-up call in the morning. I apply it all over my face and neck.
Why I love it: gel-based moisturizer goes on really smooth, works great under makeup, did I mention it smells fantastic?
At night, I’ll apply Origins Night-a-Mins. I really like the Olay cream, but this jar of Night-a-Mins is a good travel size and feels just as good on my skin. This stuff is almost double the price of Olay though, so I use it a little more sparingly.
Why I love it: great travel size, not heavily scented so it’s perfect for nighttime
Going with a bare face
Every now and then I like to give my skin a break and not put on any makeup, well at least not any foundation. In this case, after washing my face I like to apply IPKN Rose Water Soothing Gel. It goes on cool and absorbs pretty quickly. I use it as a moisturizer and means of locking in my skin’s own natural hydration. I’ll also apply it to my entire body after a bath. It feels so good and has a light rose scent to it.
Why I love it: feminine floral scent, gel-based, great for all-over skincare, not sticky, cooling properties feel great post-workout
The splurge
The most expensive single item on this list is Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II. However, I do think you get what you pay for in this world and this stuff works. It contains hyaluronic acid to help lock that natural moisture in and it definitely targets those wrinkles. I use this a couple times a week over my face and neck. As a serum, it smooths on evenly and absorbs quickly. My skin honestly feels smoother and tighter. Almost like a mini facelift.
Why I love it: a little lasts a long time, easy to apply with the included dropper, skin looks more radiant
Don’t forget your cuticles and hair
Lastly, I use Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil (Light) around my cuticles and on the ends of my hair. Just a single drop covers both hands and I use 3-4 drops on the ends of my hair. I like to apply it after showering and let my hair mostly air dry. It helps reduce the look of split ends and keeps my mani looking fresh for longer. You can also use this product on your face, but my skin is naturally oily so I use this as more of a body oil.
Why I love it: very moisturizing, unscented, great for all over body care, extends the life of your haircut
What are some of your skincare favorites? Do you prefer shopping at the drugstore, department store, or both?
