October 2017 Round-Up

Books, Fashion, Food and Wine, Lifestyle, Photography, Travel / Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

Happy Halloween, everyone! Are you trick-or-treating, handing out handy, watching the World Series, or all of the above? We will be handing out candy, binge watching Stranger Things season 2 and checking the game (Go Astros!). We hope to have some kiddos come by this year. The last couple of years we have had one little princess stop by but we do live in a relatively new neighborhood so it might take time. I bought my favorite candy (Reese’s peanut butter cups) so I guess I’ll just have to eat them. Oh well…someone has to do it!

I honestly can’t believe tomorrow is the start of November. Does anyone else feel like the fall is flying by? I’m already seeing Christmas ads popping up everywhere (although secretly I love this because Christmas is my favorite holiday). We had a pretty packed October. Here’s a quick round-up of what went down around here.

I decided to try Stitch Fix for the first time and blogged all about my experience. I’ll have more exciting news about that later this month. I love everything I received in my first fix, but I’ve especially loved these wedge booties. I’ve worn them for work, to a Spurs game, and walked all over Chicago in them last week. They are so versatile and comfortable.

In the spirit of Halloween I introduced a candy themed cocktail of the month. My Almond Joy Espresso Martini recipe is super easy and would make a great nightcap tonight. You could use decaf if you’re already too hopped up on all the sugar. 😉

I turned ** years old this year and decided it was time to remind myself of a few important things about aging. I think my reflections post is a good one for any age, really. It’s not like a New Year’s Resolution post but rather some gentle reminders.

Speaking of my birthday, we went to Las Vegas as we do every year. It was so nice to be back at the Bellagio, one of my favorite hotels. My favorite part of the Bellagio are the botanical gardens and this year’s peacocks were very impressive. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a metallic blue rose before. I’m working on an Eat+Stay+Play travel guide for a weekend in Vegas that will be coming to the blog soon.

If you’re taking a trip this fall, be sure to check out my 8 easy packing tips for a weekend trip. Don’t forget a great book for the plane. I rounded up 7 spooky tales to read this Halloween.

Last week we spent a few days in Chicago. It was so nice to feel the chilly air on my face as I strolled down Michigan Avenue, popping into shops, and sipping my coffee. Doesn’t that sound so wonderfully clichĂ©? I loved it! Chicago’s architecture and food made the biggest impressions on me. I’ll be doing a travel guide on this trip as well and I already know these two things will dominate the post. I could probably do a post on the architecture alone. I took so many beautiful photos. Would that be something you’d want to read?

I just realized I’m wearing the same top in a lot of these pictures. It’s one of my new favorites (under $30) so it has come with me pretty much everywhere this month. I’d say it’s a winner. You can shop this top from my Shop My Instagram page above, or just click here.

I always love looking back over the month and remembering all the fun we had. I hope October was a good month for you, too. Did you do anything special or fun? Travel anywhere?

Thanks so much for stopping by and reading! It means so much to me. Have a great day!
